TOURNAMENT RULES PLEASE REMEMBER...THIS IS A FUN AND RECREATIONAL EVENT! THERE WILL BE NO TRAILBLAZER TRYOUTS, OR SHOE DEALS WITH NIKE. SO FEEL FREE TO COMPETE HARD...BUT KEEP IT CLEAN AND RESPECTFUL! Who Can Play? All Clark College Students, Staff, and Faculty are eligible. Each team may have ONE player who is not currently a Clark College student OR ONE Varsity Clark Basketball player (who has played within the last two years). Number of Players Each team may consist of a maximum of 4 players and a minimum of 3 players. A team may have only 3 players on the court at any time. For all co-ed teams, a member of the opposite sex must be on the court at all times. All games must start with at least 3 players on each team. Teams that fall below this number will forfeit. FORMAT There will be three divisions, men’s, women’s and co-ed (there must be 4 or more teams to complete a division). Each team will play 3 games, guaranteed, first in pool play and then a single elimination tournament. The game times for pool play will be announced the day before the tournament via email to the team captains. After those two games, the following game times will be posted on the master schedule on the gym. PRIZES GAME Length If a score of 11 is achieved within 15 minutes: The target score for all games is 11 points, meaning the first team to reach 11 points within 15 minutes of play is declared the winner. The team that reaches 11 points does not need to have a winning margin of 2 points or greater. The 15-minute clock is stopped during team time-outs and if the court monitor stops play for a player injury or other unusual circumstance. If neither team has reached a score of 11 points, the court monitor shall stop the game after 15 minutes of play. Whichever team is ahead at this point will be declared the winner. If the score is tied at the end of the 15 minute time limit, there will be an untimed overtime period in which each team will have an opportunity to score, in a “match it, or college football” style. NOTE: All baskets will count as 1 in the overtime period. Coin toss will determine which team gets the ball first. Overtime will continue until one team has scored, and the other fails to do so. FOULS Players will call their own fouls. No free throws will be awarded for shooting fouls, instead the offense will retain possession of the ball and there will be a “check ball” at the top of the key. Technical Fouls will be issued by the court monitor for any type of behavior that is unsportsmanlike or harmful other individuals. An issued technical foul will be an automatic point, and possession of the ball. Any player receiving two technical fouls in one game will be ejected for that game and ineligible to play in the next game. 3 technical fouls during the entire tournament will result in ejection from the remainder of the tournament. Court monitors alone will be responsible for calling technical fouls at their discretion. Which Team Receives the Ball First? A coin toss prior to each game will determine which team gets the ball out-of-bounds first. Keeping Score All made baskets from inside the 2-point arc count for 1-point and made baskets from outside the 2-point arc count for two points. Checked Ball The ball must be "checked" by an opposing player before it is put into play. The ball must be passed to begin play. Change of Possession The ball will change possession after scored baskets. There will be no "make it, take it" rule. There will also be a change of possession if the ball or any part of a players body while in contact with the ball goes out of bounds. Taking it Back The ball will be "taken back" on each change of possession, regardless of whether or not a shot was attempted. Failure to "take it back" results in loss of possession and any points just scored. "Taking it back" means bringing your whole body and the ball behind the two-point arc. Ball Out-of-Bounds A ball out-of-bounds will be taken out from the back-court line. Substitutions Substitutions may be made during a time-out or a "dead ball" situation. Time-Out Each team is allowed a single one-minute time-out per game. Player Injury A court monitor has the discretion to suspend play for the protection of an injured player. If a player is bleeding or has an open wound, that player will be directed to leave the game and properly bandage the wound. A player with any bloodstained clothing or bandage must remove the stained or saturated material prior to re-entering the game. Game Times Pool play games will be posted the night before. Following the tournament's first game, each team is advised to check the Master Scoreboard for all official schedules, times, courts, revisions, and general game information. Teams must be ready to begin play at their scheduled start time. Teams not at their court for their scheduled game time will forfeit. Teams are encouraged to remain in contact with their court to observe the effects of scheduling changes that could occur mainly due to overtimes or other delays. Use of Illegal Players The players listed on the team entry form as accepted by the intramural staff are the only ones eligible for play on that team. Player changes submitted on authorized Player Change Forms, and accepted by tournament officials, must be completed and approved 24 hours prior to the start of the tournament. Under no circumstances will roster substitutions be allowed after the tournament begins. Before the beginning of each game, every player will sign a Release and Waiver and Sportsmanship Pledge. Any team using a player not properly registered will be disqualified from the tournament. An individual may not participate on more than one team, unless it is a team in a different division.
