Dear League Manager Authorised Users and
Club Coordinators,
The weather is warming up for Summer
League which begins next week. Here are
some tips to make the season fun for all:

and members will find everything they need to
know at http://leagues.tennis.com.au/ where
they can login or sign up.
Current players may view their personal
fixtures and results via their “Dashboard”.
Should their upcoming fixtures not be
available, they should scroll to the bottom of
the page and select the “link my account”
option. More help may be found here:

Ratings - Ratings continue to be updated
weekly on Monday nights, and teams should
check their fixtures and scorecards from

Junior Club Party
Oh Dear! Our Junior Club Party was washed
out. But never fear, it is rescheduled for this
Friday 21st October, same time (4:30 to 6:00),
same place, same pizza order.
Club Shirts
Lots of pennant players picked up their shirts
on Friday, but if you don’t have yours yet, or
you didn’t order one and need one, please text
Liona, our uniform coordinator, on
0417 927 967.
We also have a lot of adult-sized shirts if you
need a playing shirt or a KTC supporter shirt!
Pennants
Pennant play starts this week – go Kardinya!
For a lot of you it is your first time playing
pennants, and we wish you the best of luck in
proudly representing our club. Pennants is
about competing and playing for your club but
it is also about sportsmanship and having fun.
Also a huge thankyou to all our team
managers. If you are in need of any support
yourselves, please contact Tom Moore for
tennis questions or Nick Williams, an
experienced team manager who will be happy
to steer you on the right track (contact details
on last page).
Busy Bee
Thank you to everyone who came down on
Saturday to paint, mend nets, clean and tidy,
fix gates, fences and padlocks, and clean out
Tom’s storeroom (where we found six
pennants and the adult shirts!). We were able
to get so much done because so many of you
gave up some time on your Saturday arvo to
refresh our courts and clubhouse. Cheers!!

Pignatelli Tennis Club’s
approach to Kardinya
On a more serious note, over the past month
the committee has been talking with Pignatelli
Tennis Club, who have lost their courts, and
are looking for a new home. Pignatelli is a club
of about 50 active senior members, who play
on Sunday afternoon and during the week.
Pignatelli’s ideal outcome would be six
synthetic turf courts, and to keep their club
autonomy. They are in negotiations with three
or four other clubs as well, all of which
currently have some synthetic turf courts.
The committee feels it is important to keep the
option of growing our club through junior
development, so our thoughts at this stage are
that we would want to limit any synthetic turf
to four courts, and keep the hard courts
necessary for competitive tournaments and
pennants. Two of the top (west) courts need
resurfacing soon (courts 8 and 9), one way or
the other, but all our other courts are in good
condition. Melville City Council is planning an
appraisal of the whole Morris Buzzacott
Reserve in 2017, so we also need to keep in
mind there may be contingencies out of our
control in the near future. The synthetic turf is
also expensive, and would change the financial
situation of the club. Pignatelli have about
$50 000 on hand, which equates roughly to
two synthetic courts.
In our negotiation with Pignatelli, we have also
tried to keep the question of a shared club
culture open, as we believe it would be better
for the future to be one club, rather than a
club within a club. Any big change such as this
will certainly have an effect on our current club
culture. What Pignatelli has to offer is an
injection of an organised social aspect to the
club, and a reinvigorated senior presence.
On a logistical note, we are not sure how long
it would take to apply for grants (if they are
available) or low interest loans, and get the
turf laid (possibly 1 or 2 years), so there is
some concern that in the meantime a
significant number of Pignatelli members
would settle into other clubs. They are unable
to play on hard courts, and they are playing at
Manning currently.
It was clear at the committee meeting this
week, however, that there are no senior social
members on the committee, only parents of
juniors and young senior mens players. So we
were concerned we did not have a
representative sample of club members. Even
though everyone was invited to the meeting
with Pignatelli, there was very limited notice
given, so we did not want to assume a lack of
interest just because no one came. We are also
aware KTC does not have a club vision or
business plan, and to make such a big decision
without sufficient knowledge of our members’
needs and preferences, or a long term financial
plan, could result in unwanted or unintended
outcomes. This committee has only been
together for a few months, and it has taken us
a little time to get the basics sorted out, and
we are not confident we have a true read on
what the members as a collective want long
term.
So, we resolved that our first priority (after the
busy bee!) was to have a planning meeting
open to everyone from the club to discuss the
long term future and priorities of KTC, and in
particular the Pignatelli question. This has
been planned for Saturday 19 November, from
5 to 7 pm, followed by a barbeque. So please,
if you have an opinion about the future of KTC,
come to the meeting. If you are unable to
come, we welcome emails which will help us
make a decision. We are interested in what
your needs and preferences are as a club
member, or parent of a club member, and
your opinions on any of the issues described
above.
Sincerely,
KTC Committee
Club Future Planning Meeting
Saturday 19 November, 5 to 7 pm
Say hi to Theodore and a bunch of players who play down at the Club on Saturday mornings. They
welcome anyone to join them – Mia and Kai were grateful to escape busy bee duties leaving it to
their parents and the rest of us to do the work!
