Baseball Canada Cup 2018 Program – Three Year Plan
Phase One (Spring 2016 to April 2017)
The focus of Phase One will be to identify up to 44 players to be selected onto the initial roster of the
Baseball Canada Cup (BCC) 2018 / 17U Provincial Team Program, to lead those players in designated
competitions, and to initiate a fall / winter training program.
Initial Roster

The initial (Phase One) roster for the team will be comprised of 40 to 44 players

Players will be primarily from the cohorts born in 2001 and 2002
Player Identification and Selection Camps

Player identification will be conducted by the BCC / 17U 2018 Program coaching staff, who will
attend the following competitions to begin the player identification process:
o May
 CSG Selection Camp
o June:
 St. James AAA Tournament (Winnipeg)
 Canada Day Classic (Portage La Prairie or Brandon)
o July / August:
 Bantam AA Provincial Championship
 Bantam AAA Provincial Qualifier
 Bantam AAA Provincial Championship

The BCC / 17U 2018 Program coaching staff may also attend AA and AAA league games across
Manitoba during the player identification period

An initial invitation list of 40 players will be developed through these player identification visits

An open tryout camp will be held on August (date to be determined), through which up to 4
additional players may be identified for selection on to the Phase One roster
Phase One Competition and Training Schedule

The Phase One roster (40 to 44 players) will be invited to attend a team work-out in August 2016
(dates to be determined) to prepare for a planned competition in late August / early September
(dates and location to be confirmed)
o The roster will be split into 2 or 3 teams for this competition

During the spring and summer of 2016, the BCC / 17U 2018 Program coaching staff will identify
and invite additional support coaches to participate in the August open camp and team workout

These support coaches will also be assigned to coach the Phase One teams competing in the
planned late August / early September competition, with the BCC / 17U 2018 Program coaching
staff providing mentoring and oversight

October to December: Fall 2016 Training Program
o Players on the Phase One roster will be invited to attend a series of 6 or 7 fall work-outs
held from mid-October to mid-December

February to April 2017: Winter / Spring Training Program
o Players on the Phase One roster will be invited to attend a series of work-outs held
during February, March and April 2017

There will also be a fall/winter competition scheduled during Phase One (location and dates to
be determined)

This will conclude Phase One of the BCC / 17U 2018 Program
Phase Two (May 2017)
Phase Two is relatively short and will begin in May 2017. The focus of this phase will be to narrow and
refine the team roster in preparation for the Phase Three competition and training schedule.
Early May: Work-outs / Games

Team work-outs and/or inter-squad games will be held during the first two to three weeks of
May, depending on weather

The Phase One roster will participate in these sessions
May Long Weekend: Player Identification and Selection Camp

A player identification and selection camp will be held on the May long weekend in 2017
(location to be determined)

This camp will be open to all members of the Phase One roster, as well as to any non-roster
players born in 2001, 2002 and 2003 who wish to be evaluated and considered for selection to
the Phase Three roster

At the conclusion of this identification and selection camp, a Phase Two roster will be selected,
comprised of 32 to 36 players
Late May 2017: WABA Classic Tournament

The Phase Two will be split into two teams, which will compete in the 2017 WABA Classic
Tournament

At the conclusion of the WABA Classic Tournament, the Phase Two roster will be trimmed to 24
or 25 players

This will conclude Phase Two of the BCC / 17U 2018 Program

Phase Three (June 2017 to April 2018)
Phase Three will begin in June 2017. The focus of this phase will be on team and player development
through a structured training and competition schedule. The Phase Three roster will be comprised of 24
or 25 players, and a much greater level of commitment will be required from all participating players.
Phase Three Competition and Training Schedule

The Phase Three roster will engage in a structured competition schedule during the summer of
2017

The competition schedule will include games against WABA Midget teams, tournaments in
Grand Forks, ND and Minneapolis, MN and a possible fall tournament (to be determined)

October 2017 to January 2018: Fall – Winter Training Program
o Players on the Phase Three roster will be invited to attend a series of 6 or 7 fall workouts held from mid-October to late January

February 2018: Training and Competition Trip
o Options for this training and competition trip include taking the Phase Three roster to
Cuba, Florida or Arizona
o Location will be determined by Baseball Manitoba and the CSG coaching staff during
Phase Two

March to April 2018: Winter / Spring Training Program
o Players on the Phase Three roster will be invited to attend a series of work-outs held
during March and April 2018

This will conclude Phase Three of the BCC / 17U 2018 Program
Phase Four (May 2018)
Phase Four is relatively short and will begin in May 2018. The focus of this phase will be to identify and
select the final roster for the BCC / 17U 2018 team.
Early May: Work-outs / Games

Team work-outs and/or inter-squad games will be held during the first two to three weeks of
May, depending on weather

The Phase Three roster will participate in these sessions

be selected, comprised of 18 to 20 players

This will conclude Phase Four of the BCC / 17U 2018 Program

Phase Five (May 2018 to August 2018)
Phase Five will begin after the conclusion of the May 2018 selection camp. The focus of this phase will
be on the final preparation of the BCC / 17U 2018 team to compete in the 2018 Baseball Canada Cup in
August 2018. This phase will include a structured training and competition schedule.
Phase Five Competition and Training Schedule

The final BCC / 17U 2018 roster will engage in a structured training and competition schedule
from May through July 2018

The competition schedule will include participating in games against MJBL teams and
tournaments in Dickinson, ND and Minneapolis, MN

The culmination of the BCC / 17U 2018 Team competition schedule will be representing
Manitoba in the 2018 Baseball Canada Cup in August 2018
