Instructor Bio’s
Bree Hanafin is from Arlington, VA where she played AGSA House ball
before becoming a 4 year varsity starter and 3 time MVP shortstop for
Yorktown HS from 2004-2008. During her high school career she earned
All-District, All-Region, All-State, and Washington Post All Met honors
with the 3 time District Champion Patriots. She played for the 18U
Shamrocks team coached by Tommy Orndorff from 2007-2009, when they finished 5th for two
years in a row at ASA Gold Nationals. Bree was also on the 2008 Yorktown team that defeated
the nationally ranked O’Connell team also coached by Hall of Famer Orndorff.
Bree signed her National Letter of Intent to play for Baylor University in Waco, TX in
2008 following their first World Series appearance and top 10 ranking. She was a two year
starter at shortstop and first base, where she led the team as a freshmen in doubles and RBIs
while finishing 2nd in home runs. In 2009, the Bears won the NCAA Regional before advancing
to Super Regionals in Ann Arbor, MI. The freshman was the only Baylor player to have hits in
both games during the series.
In 2010, Bree transferred and continued the last 2 years of her college career at the
University of Maryland. The Terps hosted the NCAA Regionals in College Park, MD in 2011 and
again qualified for the NCAA Regionals in 2012 which they attended in Seattle, WA. As a 2 year
starter at first base, Bree gained All-ACC Second Team and NFCA All-Region Second Team
honors her first season while leading the team in RBIs and home runs. Bree is still in the
Maryland record books for various hitting categories including being No.2 in career average and
top 10 in season batting average.
Currently, Bree works at Accenture Consulting firm as a Senior Business Analyst. She
continues to build on her softball resume where she was the Associate Head Varsity Coach at
Marshall High School in Falls Church, VA in 2012. She has coached numerous travel teams in
the Northern Virginia region since 2008 including the Arlington Sage, Shamrocks, and Vienna
Stars.
Jessica Thomas attended West Springfield High School where she earned
four letters in softball. She also played club softball for Shamrocks Gold which
finished 5th at Gold Nationals in the summer of 2008. Jess went on to play for
Emory University in 2008 and made her mark during a memorable four-year
career as one of the program's most dynamic offensive players in school
history. She finished first on the Eagles' all-time list with 26 home runs while
ranking third in RBIs (151) and slugging percentage (.668); played in a total of
160 games, the 11th most in Emory history and her 159 starts placed ninth on the Eagles'
career chart; stands No. 7 on Emory's all-time ladder with 196 hits and her 127 runs scored
ranks sixth; totaled 52 doubles, second most in school annals; and accounted for 334 total
bases, good for the No. 2 position all-time at Emory.
Meghan Smith is a four-time First-team All-District, three-time First-team AllRegion, and two-time All-State performer from Mountain View High School in
Stafford, VA. Another Shamrocks player, Meghan was on the highly successful
18U Shamrocks Gold club team. A standout utility player at Appalachian State
University, Meghan became a regular starter and immediately made an impact in
the lineup as she led her team in various hitting categories such as batting
average, doubles, and runs scored throughout her career. With these statistics, she earned firstteam All-SoCon honors in her 2011 season.
Bridget Hawvermale played third base at James Hubert Blake High School in
Sandy Springs, MD all four years where she was named First Team All-County
in her sophomore, junior, and senior seasons, then was named an Honorable
Mention All-Met player in her junior and senior years. Becoming a teammate of
Bree, Bridget continued her collegiate career at the University of Maryland
where she started at multiple positions in the infield and outfield for the
Terrapins during her career. She was known for being an incredible utility player as well as a
threat on the bases.
Katie Roberts was a four year starter at Yorktown High School in the outfield
and infield as a switch hitter where she went on to gain All-District honors. Not
only was she a successful player, but also went on to be an impactful coach.
Beginning in high school, Katie became a volunteer coach within the AGSA
and Sage.
Carly Martin is from Hanover, MD and was a decorated player at Seton
Keough High School. She played her years of travel ball for the Washington
Senators, which started out as a team in the AGSA house league. The
Senators had multiple years of high finishes in PONY and USSSA national
tournaments. Being a standout player in the Washington DC area, Carly
remained in the District and went on to play at Howard University in 2007. As a
Bison, she was awarded MEAC Pitcher of the Week various times throughout
her career. Carly continues to provide pitching instruction to youth within the DC
Metro area.
Kristin Kelleher is a Springfield, Virginia native who was a four-year starter for
Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria, Virginia. While at BI, Kristin was a two
time 1stTeam All-State selection and a three time 1st Team All-Conference selection,
as well as earning Washington Post Honorable Mention All-Met honors. She
finished her high school career with a .455 batting average while pitching three nohitters and one perfect game in her senior season. She also set the school record
with 17 strikeouts in one game. She played for Coach Mark Anderson and the 18U
Virginia Stars Gold.
Kristin went on to play Division I collegiate softball for the Charleston Southern University
Buccaneers in Charleston, South Carolina. At CSU, she was utilized in the circle, first base, and
the outfield and voted Big South All-Conference, Big South All-Academic Team, and nominated
for NCAA Woman of the Year. She was also voted her team’s Most Valuable Player her senior
year. Kristin finished her senior season at CSU leading the team in batting (.317) and on-base
percentage (.438) in conference play. After graduation, Kristin stayed on with Charleston
Southern as a Graduate Assistant while studying for her Master of Science in Criminal Justice
degree.
Lauren Frankiewicz is in her fifth season as a coach with the Madison HS
Warhawks’ softball program. She graduated in 2005 from Madison, where she
was a 4-year varsity starter. She was a 1st-Team All-District selection from
2002-2005, the Region Player of the Year in 2002, the Region Pitcher of the
Year from 2003-2005, a 1st-Team All-State choice from 2003-2005, and was
selected to The Washington Post All-Met team from 2003-2005.
Lauren possesses the rare talent of being both a dominant pitcher and an
awesome hitter. She finished her high school career with a .489 batting
average, a 0.30 ERA with 869 strikeouts.
Lauren earned a scholarship to play in the esteemed Pac-12 Conference with the CaliforniaBerkley Golden Bears where she pitched for 2 years compiling a 2.87 ERA in 327 innings and
earned Academic All-American Team honors. She transferred to DePaul University where she
played under the coaching tutelage of world renowned pitcher, Cat Osterman. Lauren finished
with a 3.25 ERA and hit .310 while earning second-team All-Big East Conference honors in
2008. She is a member of the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame. Lauren also coaches with the
Vienna Stars travel program.
Becky Anderson is in her 5th year as a varsity coach with the
Westfield HS Bulldogs. She played 4 years at George Mason
University. During her college career she set various single-season
school records, including ERA (1.29), shutouts (7) and opposing
batting average (.183) in addition to throwing the 4th perfect game in
school history.
Becky earned numerous conference weekly honors and 4 conference
season honors, including 2 All-CAA First Team selection, 1 All-CAA Second Team selection and
1 All-CAA Rookie Team selection. In addition to pitching, she batted and played third base, first
base and outfield during her college career.
Becky graduated GMU with a cumulative 3.57 GPA and earned Academic All-State honors
while being nominated for “Senior of the Year”.
Prior to attending George Mason, Becky was a 4 year varsity softball player at Oakton High
School where she earned 3 First Team All-Concorde District selections, 2003 Concorde District
Tournament MVP and 2006 All-North Regional tournament team. Oakton advanced to the state
tournament 3 of the 4 years she played. Becky has experience as a pitching coach and worked
softball camps and clinics while playing at George Mason University. She currently works as an
internal auditor.
Mandy Conlon is a Northern Virginia local from the Herndon area and a 2005 graduate from
Oakton High School. She played field hockey and softball for the Cougars and was a four year
Varsity starter, two year team captain, and two time team MVP for softball. During her time at
Oakton she played shortstop, third base, and spent some time behind the plate and at first.
Mandy was awarded many district and regional honors during her career but went on to focus
on academics in college. After graduating with a degree in Marketing Management from the
Pamplin School of Business at Virginia Tech, Mandy has begun a career in marketing with the
Washington Nationals, LivingSocial, and most recently, TMP Government. She served as a
Varsity assistant under Dean Ferington at Westfield High School and now works with athletes in
the Arlington area. Still an active softball player, Mandy plays on many local slowpitch and
fastpitch teams and got the chance to play with Team USA and Reese Witherspoon in the

David Astrow, Personal Trainer
Dave grew up in Northern Virginia and has been a personal trainer since 2010. He graduated
from Annandale High School where he was on the wrestling, football, and lacrosse teams. After
graduation, he served as the assistant freshman football coach. He is a second degree purple
belt and certified instructor in level 2 Brazilian Jujitsu, and reached the second level in Krav
Maga (combat system of the Israel Defense Forces). Dave specializes in circuit training, core
training, sports conditioning, youth fitness, and weight loss. He is an AFAA Certified Personal
Trainer. He enjoys assisting people of all ages and fitness levels reach their personal health and
fitness goals.
