St Madoc 5 a-side Tournament Rules
Rules for 5 a-side competitions are usually massively in-depth, far too complicated and make you fall
asleep half way through. At the St Madoc Centre we feel that that’s probably a bad thing, and have
tried to simplify things a little. Hopefully we succeeded with our own rules, which are as follows:
Squads can contain up to 8 players, players cannot play for more than one squad.
A team consist of 4 players and a goalkeeper. (Duh).
Roll-on/roll-off substitutions are allowed during the game, provided the ‘keeper has the ball, or the
ball is out of play.
No one but the ‘keeper is allowed into the goal area. Indirect free kicks will be awarded for
deliberate infringements.
‘Keepers aren’t allowed out of their areas. Indirect free kicks will be awarded for deliberate
infringements.
Referees can sin bin players at for unsporting behaviour – things like swearing, arguing or cheating.
Sin bins last for two minutes, or however long the ref decides.
Defenders should stand 2 metres away from free kicks or throw-ins, and free kicks may be moved by
the taker up to 2 metres away from the ‘keeper’s area if they are too close.
No sliding tackles.
Players may only take two steps for a penalty.
Players must wear shin pads.
That’s pretty much it really. The main thing to remember is that all football, and especially our
tournament, is meant to be fun, enjoy yourselves and don’t take it too seriously. Another thing that
would be good to remember is: ‘be awesome to each other’, or to put it another way: ‘treat others
as you would like yourself to be treated’, if everyone tries to stick to these guidelines and rules we’ll
all have a fantastic time.
