BTTC Mission August 2016 - Brighton Table Tennis Club

Brighton Table Tennis Club works with people of all
ages, especially young people, to improve health,
celebrate diversity and build a strong community
“I love playing so much because
I really want to be the number
one Down Syndrome player in
the world. Table Tennis is good
fun and seeing lots of friends.
My future in Table Tennis is
that I want to be a very good
coach. I come here five days a
week and play 20 hours a week
in total.”
Harry Fairchild
HISTORY OF THE CHARITY
“I am 16 years old. I travelled
on my own from Vietnam and
have successfully sought
asylum in the UK as I am a
victim of trafficking. Through
The Virtual School for Children
in Care I have 1:1 Table Tennis
and English tuition at the Club
for 4 hours a week.”

OUR MISSION
The Club was founded in February 2007 by two exinternational table tennis players with the specific
aim of using table tennis as a tool to engage
children and young people living in the most
deprived parts of the City and provide them with
opportunities to reach their potential.
As the Club has grown we have expanded our reach
to people with learning disabilities, over 50s,
looked after children, refugees, LGBT, as well as
adults from the local community. Today the Club
benefits from a uniquely diverse membership
which creates a vibrant atmosphere, in which
strong friendships have formed across social and
cultural barriers.

THE CLUB’S THEORY OF CHANGE
EVALUATING OUR IMPACT
BTTC’S Theory of Change is based on the
assumption that changes in behaviour, choices
made and well-being are dependent on changes in
self-confidence and self-esteem, changes in sense
of community, belonging and empathy and
changes in decision-making and taking
responsibility. In order to effect change, BTTC
focuses on personal development.

Ex-mayor Bill Randall, now a Club trustee, described it
as “one of the City’s brightest sporting lights. It helps
people from many communities and all ages keep fit
and well and brings them together to offer mutual
support and friendship.”
