Welcome to our Volleyball program! Our number one concern is the children who will
participate. We believe each child should learn the fundamentals of Volleyball, while
learning sportsmanship and having fun. An emphasis will be placed on having good role
models in our Volleyball league. Coaches, parents, and officials will be asked to demonstrate,
to our participants, what good sportsmanship is all about. We hope that you have a safe and
enjoyable experience!
Our philosophy is a fundamental based program, that challenges the player to improve in
volleyball, but creates an environment where every skill level can participate. Grades 3 and
up will have rules that will encourage coaches to teach a volleyball offense. We hope to
bridge the gap between recreational volleyball and club volleyball by giving recreational
players the skills necessary to play beyond recreational volleyball. All participants will play in
every game and equal playing time will be a goal. This program is available to all segments of
the community, regardless of race or financial status. Scholarships are available for qualified
registrants.
Players:
Players will be organized according to grade level. Players will enter an evaluation and
placed on a team to create a fair playing environment. There are 6 players per side of the
court, but a team can start with 5 players. 1st and 2nd grade will be allowed to borrow a player
from another team to achieve 6 players. 3rd and above will need a minimum of 5 players to
play the game. If you have less than 5 players, you can contact player agent to arrange for a
player to play up from a lower division.
Practice:
Each team will have one practice a week at an AISD facility. Practice days/times will be
given at coaches meeting. Younger age groups will be given earlier practice time slots. Coaches
are allowed to hold more than one practice per week. Only one practice will be arranged
through the Terry St. Peters Aledo Lion’s Club Volleyball League.
Games:
Games will be played on Saturday, with the understanding that exceptions may need to
be made with unforeseen circumstances. Playoff games may be played during the week, in the
evening.
Refunds:
All registration and sales are final. If there are unforeseen circumstances, a refund may
be requested and submitted before the board for review. Online registrants who fail to attend
the player evaluation will be refunded 75% of the fee and will be ineligible to play the current
season. Other refunds will be looked at on a case by case basis by the board of directors.
Decisions will be based on cost already incurred at the time of the request, i.e. cost of ordered
jersey, etc.
Officials:
There will be a site coordinator at games to help with rules interpretation and
management of the site. Home team will be responsible for keeping the official score. Visitor
team will be responsible for providing line judges (parent volunteers). Referees will be
provided by Terry St. Peters Aledo Lion’s Club Youth Volleyball League.
Age/Divisions of play:
A players’ division is determined by grade level. A player may play up one age division,
but no player will be allowed to play down in an age division.

Start of Game:
Games will begin with the Home team serving first. Each team is required to have a
minimum of 5 players to start game. A forfeit will be called 5 minutes after game time. A call
up player from a younger age division is acceptable.
Warming up:
Teams will have 10 minutes to warm up between games. Warm up will consist of 5
minutes of passing and 5 minutes of serving. The site coordinator will have discretion to
increase or decrease warm up time to accommodate games being played as scheduled. No
jewelry allowed with one exception for stud earrings.
Substitutions/Rotation Rules:
Substitutions will be made using rotation method. This happens in the middle back
position following a change in possession. The players will start 2nd game where they ended the
1st game and start the 3rd game where they ended the 2nd game. A libero may be used in 3rd,
4th, 5th/6th grade divisions. It may be used once per game and once per match per player. You
can only sub for an individual player once per match. You may have a permanent setter in 3rd,
4th, 5th/6th grade divisions. The permanent setter will not be allowed to attack the ball when in
back row. Coaches must notify referee if permanent setter will be used.
Serving:
The line up at the beginning of the game determines the service order throughout the
game. Players of both teams must be in their correct rotational order at the time of service by
either team. After the serve, players may move to any court position. Players rotate clockwise
when their team obtains serve. 1st/2nd grade division may serve from a 12’ service line. 3rd, 4th
may step no more than one step into court when serving. 5th/6th will serve behind the service
line. If the server wins 5 points in a row, the opposing team rotates and obtains the serve. The
referee will blow the whistle to indicate when to serve. Service faults happen when ball fails to
cross over the net or a member of same team touches ball before it crosses over the net. No
foot faults will be called unless server steps more than one step over the service line. 1st/2nd
and 3rd, 4th divisions will be given a second attempt, if first attempt does not cross over the net.
If the ball crosses the net and lands out of bounds, there will be no 2nd attempt. 5th/6th grade
division will have no second attempt.
Legal contact during play:
Each team may have 3 successive contacts to return the ball to the opponent’s court. If
the first touch is a block, then the team who blocked may have 3 additional contacts.
The ball may contact any part of the body and any number of body parts as long as it
does so simultaneously.
When the ball comes to rest momentarily in the hands or arms of a player, it is
considered help. This is a violation.
Double contact – occurs when a player hits the ball more than once with no other player
touching it in between these contacts.
Double contact is allowed when attempting to play any first ball over the net, as long it is one
continuous motion by the player.
If two players hit the ball simultaneously, it is considered one contact.
Rally Scoring:
A point is awarded on every serve, no matter which team served the ball. The team
who wins the point gets to serve next point.
All games will be played with rally scoring.
Rule Modifications:
Site coordinator has the authority to modify any rule in spirit of sportsmanship or the
good of the game. This will be done only in extreme circumstances.
Conduct:
Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated. Coaches are responsible for the actions
of players and spectators. Unsportsmanlike conduct can result in loss of serve, ejection from
game, and forfeiture of game.
All players are required to line up on end lines at end of each set until the referee signals
for them to come to net at end of match or switch sides.
Rules not covered will default to NFHS rules
