Many British children start school at the age of
3 or 4 if there is a play school near their
house. These schools are nursery and there
are not compulsory.
Children sing, draw and play different games.
Compulsory education begins at the age of 5,
when children go to primary school.
Primary school subjects: Art, Drama, English,
Geography, History, Maths, etc.
Children start secondary school at the age of
11. All children study the same 12 subjects.
When students are 14 they can choose the
subjects they like.
The school year begins in September.
The lessons last 40-45 minutes.
There are three terms in a school year. When
the term is over, schoolchildren have
holidays: Christmas holidays - 2 weeks,
Easter holidays — 2 weeks, Summer holidays
— 6 weeks.
British pupils wear a school uniform.
Boys wear a shirt and tie, dark trousers and dark-coloured
pullover.
Girls wear a white blouse with dark skirt and dark pullover with
school badges.
