COME AND MEET ACG TAURANGA'S NEW PRINCIPAL AND HER TEAM! Dear Subscriber, We greatly appreciate your continued interest in ACG Tauranga. In this newsletter you will find a profile of our recently appointed Foundation Principal, details of the opportunities to meet with the Principal and academic teams of ACG, an update on what is happening at the school site and mention of the ACG Tauranga Preschool. The ACG Tauranga Information and Application Forms can be accessed below. Years 1 to 9 Information and Application Form Preschool Information and Application Form Christine Cottell-Mayhew has been appointed the Foundation Principal for ACG Tauranga. Larne Edmeades, ACG Parnell Principal and a key member of the ACG Tauranga development team, says, "Chris is an educationalist who is also a leader. Chris brings with her an in depth understanding of the complexities and challenges in setting up a new school." Chris grew up in Whakatane and has lived in Tauranga for many years, teaching in both primary and secondary schools. She returns to the region after several years away as the Foundation Deputy Principal and Associate Principal at Albany Junior High School. This year she has been the Acting Principal. Chris started teaching in 1982 and has worked at a diverse range of schools, including Tauranga Intermediate, Tauranga Boy's High, Ohope Beach School, Tahuna Normal Intermediate and St Hilda's Collegiate. She has taught both primary and secondary classes. One of Chris' first tasks once she completes next week's series of Bay of Plenty public meetings, is to begin the appointments of teaching staff. ACG Tauranga has received a very large number of applications from some exceptionally well-qualified and experienced teachers. It will be a pleasure for Chris as Principal to begin to build her team of teaching experts. Next week there is opportunity for families to meet with Chris, and a team of senior ACG managers and teachers. We will be running a series of seven public meetings in Tauranga and the wider Bay of Plenty region. The format for the public meetings is that of an open display, so please feel free to come at any time throughout the event. The construction of the site on the corner of Pyes Pa Road and Keenan Road is proceeding well, despite the challenging weather of the past few weeks. The huge rainfall has meant that the contractors could test the storm water system, which proved to work efficiently. Construction is approximately 75 per cent through the foundation work. Construction of the classroom block will begin when the foundations are completed. With the building running to schedule, work will begin on the Preschool and the gymnasium following the classroom block build. Plans for the construction of the Preschool have been brought forward. ACG Tauranga has always intended to have a Preschool, but construction has been bought forward as there is a demand for it. Several other ACG schools have used the same model in their development and have opened an early childhood centre at the same time as the primary classes. We are looking forward to meeting prospective students and parents over the next week and listening to what you would like from a school. We are also looking forward to sharing our vision of Tauranga's first independent school offering the Cambridge International Exam programme. For those families who are not in the Bay of Plenty region at present be assured that we will continue to keep in close contact with you.
