Safety Rounds:

Safety Round
 This is the standard set of safety rounds that should happen with EVERY round
for ALL patients.
 7:00AM to 11:00PM – popup triggers every hour from last check in
 11:00PM to 7:00AM– popup triggers every 2 hours from last check in
 Please ensure that you have checked all information listed.
 Push “Complete All As Appropriate” to complete the safety round.
 You will notice the name and number of the nurse beside the pain message –
this comes from the assignment on the SmartBoard.

Hospitality Round
 This is a once-a-day round

Should happen consistently at 1:00PM – popup will trigger uon room entry after
1:00PM each day
 Please ensure that you have checked all information listed.
 Push “Complete All As Appropriate” to complete the hospitality round.

Comfort Round
 This is the once-a-day comfort round designed to assess patient comfort in terms
of sleep and food.
 This comfort round is triggered at 10:00AM every day
 Please ensure that you have checked all information listed.
 Push “Complete All As Appropriate” to complete the comfort round.

Safety Round – Extended Gap
 This is a safety trigger designed to catch caregiver inactivity in a patient room for
extended periods of time
 If 4 hours elapses without a tagged staff member entering the patient’s room, the
extended gap indicator will trigger on the SmartBoard to alert staff:
•
Evaluate for elevated INR (lab results).
 If two or more consecutive INRs within 72 hours are greater than 3.6 a triggered
notification called INR consecutive increase will appear along with an indicator on
the SmartBoard:
 If an individual INR value for a patient is equal to or greater than 4.0 a triggered
notification called INR threshold breach will appear along with an indicator on the
SmartBoard:
 With both the increase and breach you will see a pop-up that has to be
acknowledged by touching the screen.
 The person acknowledging must complete the task in the task button.
 This task is only for the RNs and MDs.
 IMPORTANT: An email will then be sent to a primary unit’s bed board pager if
the alert has not been acknowledged at the bedside on the caregiver
touchscreen within an hour.
 IMPORTANT: If another hour passes and the triggered notification still has not
been acknowledged, the message will be escalated again to assure that
someone is aware of the safety risk.

SMARTBOARD INDICATORS
