Newsletter Lisle Marsden Church of England Primary Academy 5th October 2016 ECO School Green Flag Award for Lisle The fantastic news to share with you all is that Lisle Marsden has successfully achieved the Green Flag Eco Schools Award for the third time! The flag has again been awarded after assessors spent the afternoon at Lisle talking to pupils, interviewing pupil members of the ECO Schools Council, touring and inspecting the site and scrutinising progress made since their last visit two years ago on reducing waste and saving energy. biodiversity and development of our School Grounds are important and evident within our work, that we promote Healthy Living, that we support children to reduce unnecessary journeys by car and reduce local Transport, that reducing Litter and Waste are ongoing priorities and that ultimately the school is both contributing to and supporting our children with an understanding of Global Citizenship! We are awaiting a new ‘green flag’ to be able to fly from our flag pole very soon to show everyone who visits our site our collective pride in this achievement! To again achieve the award, Lisle had to show that it continues to be a sustainable school and that consideration of and action on environmental issues is embedded in the curriculum and assumes an important priority at the academy. We had to demonstrate and prove that we actively save Energy, are responsible over our use of Water, that Fantastic Football Festival The sun shone on Lisle footballers on Friday 30th September. Well done Lisle! Unauthorised Absences – Holidays in Term Time A reminder to all parents that following a change in legislation by the government in 2013, all schools and academies are no longer able to authorise a leave of absence during Cartons of fruit juice Tea/ coffee Long life milk Breakfast cereals Jams/ pickles etc. Please ensure that all food is within the sell-by-date. Please don’t send in any ‘fresh’ food. Last year CARE was overwhelmed with the generosity shown by Lisle parents! With 561 pupils and many new families now at Lisle, let’s make 2016 the biggest and best Harvest ever! term time for the purposes of a holiday. Despite recent publicity in the media over court cases, the academy must follow Department for Education guidelines which have not changed! Only ‘exceptional’ cases may be authorised by schools and legislation makes it quite clear that shift patterns and work based rota holiday allocation as well as special occasions such as birthdays do not qualify as exceptional. Parents who choose to take their child out of school during term time for a holiday run the risk of a fine from the Local Authority. Boy’s Football News Nine boys from Lisle Marsden took part in the ESFA tournament at Old Clee Academy on Thursday 29th September. Like the girls they played like they have been playing together for a long time. Our team won three and drew one but lost their final game which meant they came second in their group, just missing out on a trip to Hull in the next round. A great effort and they should be very proud of themselves. We are very lucky to have so many good players to choose from at Lisle Marsden. Thank you to all those who came to the trials. Girls’ Football News Hockey Action News On Thursday 22nd September nine girls took part in the ESFA tournament at Old Clee Academy. We are lucky to have a great team who gelled without having a great deal of training together. They played with confidence and determination. The girls didn’t lose a game – they won three and drew one. They came second in the tournament and now look forward to playing in the next round in Hull on 29th November. If they win they have a chance to progress to the next stage in Nottingham. A great team effort! Good luck! On the afternoon of Thursday 29th September 6 girls and 6 boys went to a Quick Sticks hockey tournament held at Oasis Academy, Wintringham. All the children were passionate about each game and were extremely keen to win. Team A finished in second place and Team B came fifth. Well done to everyone who played.
