Beyond tantrums and timeouts

ELCC Presents Our 8th Annual Conference
Beyond tantrums and timeouts...
Let’s empower children with the right tools for success and independence while learning to understand
them. Join us on Saturday, October 25th for a presentation by Kelly Bartlett who will help us learn how to:
Build meaningful relationships with kids; teach them to self-regulate; and help them build resiliency.
Morning Session:

FLIPPING OUR LIDS; understanding the physiology of tantrums and losing control
(for both kids and adults).

UNDERSTANDING MISBEHAVIOUR; why do children act out? Where does misbehaviour
come from? What are the hidden messages behind a child’s actions?
Understanding the roots of behaviour will help you to respond positively and
successfully with children.

POSITIVE TIMEOUTS; how to take a traditional discipline tool (timeout) and make it
more effective in teaching children self-regulation skills.
Afternoon Session:

COMMUNICATING WITH CHILDREN; the basics of non-violent communication, as well as
what it means to be a good listener.

THE POWER OF ENCOURAGEMENT; how encouragement is different than praise, and
how it is effective at helping children build confidence and develop resilience.

RAISING RESILIENT KIDS; the four steps necessary to teach kids how to succeed in the
face of adversity.
Please note:
 Lunch is provided
 All registrants will receive a copy of Kelly Bartletts’ book: Encouraging Words for Kids
