Today we have 3 trainers & 4 trainees; medical
students

• Trainees learn from each other
• Supportive environment for learners
• Opportunity to cover many aspects of
mandatory training (see later)
• Scope to cover broad areas in curriculum

Why is this important- Training
practice perspective
• Joint Tutorials are a means of helping to
provide mandatory teaching for more then
one learner, but reducing impact of loss of
appointments from a trainer
• Rota impact- ease of one tutorial for all/
availability of duty.
Role of the trainer
• Need to an effective facilitator
• Skills required to ensure that all trainees
engage in the process.
• Planning required to ensure that each
trainee is aware of their role in the
tutorials. (next slide)
