U10 training starts at 5:00pm and also finishes at 6:00pm. Please be aware that all parents need to ensure that they park in the main part of the car park, as the Netball Club is also training on Wednesday nights. Please note that it is a requirement during both training and game play (Friday night or Saturday morning) that a parent of each player be present in case of emergencies. As the Club does not collect Medicare or ambulance information, it is vital that a parent is available. If you are planning to leave your child in the care of another parent, please inform both the coach and the team manager so they know who to talk to if an incident occurs. CPCC Junior Newsletter Edition 1 October 20 JUNIOR PANTHER PULSE Under 14 News The new Under 14 side has completed their first grading game and are half way through their second. Recruitment for this team was fantastic this year, with only four of last years Under 12’s moving up. The rest of the team has come to join the Panthers for the first time. Some are experienced cricketers whilst others are playing competition cricket for the first time – this is what cricket is all about, playing together as a team, learning from each other and having fun. We welcome back Brandon, Leigh, Koby and Jarrod, and welcome Karl, Mitchell, Braydon, Aaron, Michael A, Michael T, Joel and Joshua to the team. Game 1 – Saturday 5th and 12th October – Kimberley Park The first game of the season was played at home with day one ending with both teams in a winning position. Our boys bowled first and restricted South Warrandyte – North Ringwood to 2/93 off their first 25 overs, with Brandon and Mitchell picking up the two wickets. The bowling needs improvement with a large number of extras given away, but good things come with practice. Special thanks to Sam (U12) who sub fielded for the morning for the team. It meant 11 fielders instead of 10. Our boys replied well, ending the day at 2/81 off their 25 overs, with new recruits Karl on 34 not out and Michael A on 32 not out. Unfortunately we did not start well with the bat on day two with Karl being bowled without adding to his score and Michael adding only 1. The other notable batsman was Brandon with 15 runs. However, Mitch, Leigh, Michael T and Koby all opened their batting accounts for the Panthers – well done to all. We ended our batting session with a score of 8/129. Although it was only a small lead, it was quite respectable for the new team. The opposition overtook our total in their 36th over (11th for the day) and went on to bat to a total of 4 for 193. Best bowling figures were Michael A - 6 overs 0/10, Brandon - 6 overs 1/13 and Michael T - 5 overs 0/8. All players got a bowl, something we will continue to build on throughout the sesson. Game 2 – Saturday 19th and 26th October – Mullum Mullum Reserve Our second opposition is Norwood/St Andrews. We went there with our heads high and a determination to improve, something which was achieved by every player. Despite only having 10 players for day one, the team decided to bowl after winning the toss. We struck success in the second over with Brandon taking the first week. The opposition were patient in their batting, but our boys were good in the field and CPCC Junior Newsletter Edition 1 October 20 JUNIOR PANTHER PULSE supported well by each other. Both Leigh and Joshua (playing his first game) took wickets, and the opposition were 3/73 off their first 25 overs. Bowling figures to date include Michael A – 3 overs 1/6, Karl – 4 overs 0/4 and Joshua 3 overs 1/2. Again all players bowled with everyone contributing well. Less extras were given away and it was a stellar effort in the field with only 10 players on the ground. In reply our boys batted well, with every player getting off the mark. Despite losing three wickets for the day, we finished the morning, only having faced 20 overs, at 3/112. The standout performance was from Michael A who had to retire at 40 not out (well done), hitting to all parts of the ground including 2 exciting fours. He was ably supported by Joshua, Mitchell, Jarrod and Karl. Karl remains not out on 18 and was developing a good partnership with Brandon who is also not out on 13. It will be an exciting day next Saturday, with CPCC to face a further 25 overs and then bowling 20 at the opposition. Let’s support the boys and hope that they can continue the effort and get their first win. Under 12 News The under 12 team is made up of a number of club stalwarts and some new faces. The team welcomes back Mahalia (our only girl in the club this year), James N-S, Jai, Jaxon, Blake and Thomas Mc. It welcomes from the U10 of last year, James B, Sam, Brandon and Thomas Ma. We also have some new recruits in Tyler, Bailey and Jack. The team had their first hit out at St Andrews on Friday 11th and 18th October. We are in group 12-4 and although the first two games are grading games, we are just out to have fun, learn the game and have more fun. We opened up the season by batting first and after our 20 overs were 5/40, with extras dominating the card. We did make a few runs of the bat, with Brandon the standout making 3. Some improvements in running between the wickets will be looked at during training in the coming weeks. All players in our team bowled, except for the keeper James N-S, and a good job was done by all. The opposition finished their 20 overs in fading light at 4/45. The wicket takers were Bailey, Jaxon, Thomas Ma & Thomas Mc. The second day saw us on top early, however a new recruit for St Andrews helped them to a total of 100 although the Panthers did manage to bowl the team out before the allotted 20 overs. Again all players bowled well, with wickets picked up by James B, Jack, Brandon, Tyler and another by Thomas Mc, with Brandon also affecting a CPCC Junior Newsletter Edition 1 October 20 JUNIOR PANTHER PULSE run out. Unfortunately during the break there was a serious accident. It is important that all players understand safety and ensure that they and team mates are looked after. The club would like to remind all junior players that bats must be carried pointed down to the ground, and only raised when out in the middle or when in the nets. Practice shots should only ever be undertaken when well away from others and only when certain that no one will be injured. This is best done in the nets or under supervision of a parent during warm up. The team fought hard in their overs. A chase of 60 was always going to be difficult; however they did not let the opposition take easy wickets and did the Panthers proud. The team was all out for 57. Standout batsman was James N-S with 4 off the bat. As there are currently 13 players in the squad, there will be a rotating roster of who bats. All endeavours will be made to ensure every player gets as close to the same number of batting opportunities as everyone else throughout the season. Next week’s game (25th October and 1st November) will be played at home. Under 10 News We welcome back a number of under 10 players from last season, including Alex, Jaydee, Kanhai, William, Jackson, Sam Mc, Nick, Ben & Daniel. New recruits are Sam R, Jack H, Tadhg, Jack B, Josh, Liam A, Mitchell and Liam G. The first game was played at home (11th October) against Mooroolbark and gee didn’t the boys bowl well! It was obvious that there has been an improvement from the kids who played last season and adding to that, our new players were off to a terrific start. A special thank you to William who kindly batted with Mooroolbark as their 10th player. As with bowling, our batting techniques are also improving, however there’s always room for improvement. A big thank you to both Tadhg & Sam R who agreed not to bat this game, as the team had too many players. All efforts will be made to ensure that everyone has a fair go throughout the season. We may need to rotate two or three boys off the field each game depending upon our weekly numbers. Additionally, several boys may miss out on a bat every three or four games. This will depends on the numbers we have available and numbers in the CPCC Junior Newsletter Edition 1 October 20 JUNIOR PANTHER PULSE opposition camp. Kate McGrath is our team manager and she shall be managing an informal roster of sorts; you can contact her direct if you need to make any changes (or notify of an absence) on 0419350135. If we do need a formal roster, then we will give everyone a copy later. With 17 players we will carefully monitor the situation and see how we can maximise participation for all. Thanks to Mark Hardy for cooking the BBQ and all the parents who helped out. The opening draw for the season is as follows. Once the final draw is released we will publish it for you. This can simply be helping the players during training, assisting with players getting their equipment on and off at training and during the games, packing up the kits (again training and game day), scoring and managing the teams. We are here to help your child develop both their cricket and social skills. Feel free to approach us either during training or at the start of the game. The more helpers means more time we can spend with the children developing their skills. Thanks! Stand by for a fundraiser activity…..possibly Cadbury chocolates. We will be asking each family to sell one box of chocolates to help us fund the Christmas Party. DATE TO REMEMBER: Saturday 21st December Chirnside Park Cricket Club Christmas Party! To be held at the club rooms, between 5 – 7 pm. Each Child will get a lolly bag from Santa. There will be a jumping castle and sausage sizzle. We will be joined by the CP Netball Club. Hope to see all Junior Players and parents there.
