6th March 2009
WORLD BOOK DAY
We celebrated World Book Day yesterday with lots of reading
activities. Primaries 6 and 7 had
a visit from Bailie Liz Cameron,
who read to them in our library.
Every child was given a book and
a bookmark. Children should be
encouraged to read as much as
possible, both for enjoyment
and because good reading skills
are so important in our everyday lives.
RED NOSE DAY – 13th March
We will be “Doing something funny for money” for Comic Relief
again. Children (and staff) will be dressing up – the sillier the
better! and we are asking for a donation of at least £1 for the
privilege.
There will be cakes and competitions and each class will be
performing in our very own version of “Let’s Dance”.
Parents are invited to come along from 1.30pm onwards and join
in the fun – of course it will cost you! Minimum donation £1 and
if you wish to dress up too – that would be great!
Last time we raised £307.73 – let’s see if we can beat that this
time!
STAFF NEWS
I am very pleased to let you know that Mrs Bryce has been promoted
to the post of Acting Principal Teacher in the school. Mrs Bryce will
continue as P6 teacher, but will have other additional duties as well.
PTA/YPPC
There was a very good turn out of parents at the meeting with
Kathryn Farrow and, as a result, our Parent Council and the PTA subcommittee are up and running again.
Office bearers were elected at a meeting on 3 rd March. They are:
YPPC Chairperson
Robert Findlay-Parent member
Treasurer
Alexis Maguire-Teacher member
Secretary / Vice Chair Michelle Campbell-Parent member
The Scholastic Bookfair will be in school again this year from
13th– 20th March. The children will have the opportunity to see
the books and then the chance to buy from the bookfair. It will
also be available for parents at the Parents’ Evening. For every
£1 spent by you, the school receives commission to spend on
more books for our library, so please try to support this. Last
year, parents spent a total of £493 at the fair.
OPEN AFTERNOON
I would like to invite you to our Open Afternoon on Tuesday 17th
March between 1.30pm and 2.45pm. The afternoon will give you

this to a minimum by checking your child’s hair regularly.
