Installation Instructions SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS All tools used to assemble this product should be used in compliance with manufacturer’s guidelines. Installation of this product will require heavy lifting and bending. Any person that is not capable of such activity should not participate in the installation of this product. If using a ladder during assemble, use extreme caution and refer to the warnings and cautions on the ladder Due to the size and weight of this product, we recommend at least (4) competent adults are present. Before digging the hole for the anchor system, please call 811 to ensure that all underground utilities are a safe distance away from the anchor system. Make sure there are no overhead power lines within a 20 foot radius of the basketball system. All parts and components necessary to complete proper installation are included within this product. Do not use parts not included with our system. Failure to follow this requirement could cause product malfunction and will void warranty of this product. Keep all organic materials away from parts and components to avoid corrosion. Please use caution when performing Slam Dunks on your Mega Slam Hoop. Do not climb on any part of the basketball system as it was not intended for this activity. Do not use the basketball system as a lift or to hoist anything Players should wear a protective mouth guard during play to avoid any type of dental injury. Players should refrain from wearing any loose jewelry that could potentially get caught in the rim or net. Only hang on the rim momentarily to regain your balance. Release the rim as soon as possible. Do not allow children to adjust basketball system. Check the basketball system on a regular basis to ensure that there are no signs of deterioration or corrosion, loose hardware, or damaged parts. If you see any signs of damage perform maintenance or contact Mega Slam Hoops for replacement. Failure to follow these safety instructions could result in product malfunction, serious injury, or even death. PHASE 1 Planning and Preparation PHASE 2 Day 1: Install Anchor System & Pour Concrete Day 2: Allow concrete to cure Day 3: Allow concrete to cure Day 4: Allow concrete to cure PHASE 3 Day 5: Complete assembly of the MegaSlam™ basketball system (Requires at least 4 adults) PLANNING & PREPARATION (PHASE 1) 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Call 811 from anywhere in the country a few days prior to digging, and your call will be routed to your local One Call Center. Tell the operator where you're planning to dig, what type of work you will be doing and your affected local utilities companies will be notified about your intent to dig. In a few days, they'll send a locator to mark the approximate location of your underground lines, pipes and cables, so you'll know what's below ‐ and be able to dig safely. Inventory and identify all parts and hardware using the Hardware List. Be sure to check all packaging materials for hardware and parts, and immediately contact your Mega Slam Hoops dealer if there are any missing parts. Gather all of the items needed for assembly not included with the product as outlined on page 7. Locate a suitable area for the playing court. Always keep safety in mind when selecting your location. Your MegaSlam™ Basketball system should be located to provide a paved, smooth, and level playing surface that is as far away from the street as possible to enable a safe playing environment. The following factors should be evaluated prior to selecting a location: Underground utilities Surrounding power lines (No overhead power lines should be within a 20 ft. radius of the system.) Overhang – distance from front of pole to front of backboard when adjusted to 10’ The amount of playing surface desired surrounding the goal. The MegaSlam™ basketball system will be a permanent structured once installed. The playing surface must be free of any hazards or obstructions. 6 ITEMS NEEDED NOT INCLUDED WITH SYSTEM Post Hole Digger Shovel Wheel Barrow (15‐17) 80 lbs. bags of concrete or (20‐23) 60 lbs. bag of concrete Garden Hose 2”x4” lumber (6) Stakes to secure form boards Trowel Hammer and nails Level Tape Measure (2) Large Crescent Wrenches 17mm wrench 16mm deep socket ANCHOR INSTALLATION (PHASE 2 ‐ DAY 1) 7 1. Anchor Assembly Twist (4) nuts (A1) to the bottom of threads on (4) J‐ bolts (Y). Place these J‐ bolts through the holes on the black anchor plate and install (4) nuts (A1) and tighten. The bottom of the J‐bolts should be positioned as shown. c) Mix (15‐17) 80 lbs. bags of concrete in wheel barrow or cement mixer and pour in pre‐dug hole about half full. Agitate concrete with shovel or mixing rod to ensure proper fill. Place (4) pieces of No. 4 Rebar (included) in middle of hole about 8” apart to create a square in the middle of the hole. d) Pour the remaining concrete in the hole until it is flush with the top of the form boards and smooth with cement trowel. e) Place assembled anchor system in hole to the point where bottom of black anchor plate is flush with the top of the finished concrete. f) The (4) nuts (A1) on the bottom of the anchor plate will forever be placed in the concrete. 2. Anchor Installation a) Dig a hole 18” x 18” x 48” deep and bell out the bottom to 24” for maximum stability. b) Use 2” x 4” lumber or cardboard forms to form the top of the hole for finished aesthetics. The top edge of the form boards should be level with the playing surface. 8 g) Use a tape measure to verify that the anchor is square to the playing surface. h) Use a level to verify that anchor plate is level from front to back and side to side. i) Allow the concrete to cure for a minimum of 3 Days. 9 MEGASLAM™ SYSTEM ASSEMBLY (PHASE 3 ‐ DAY 5) 1. Main Pole Assembly a) Verify with level that nuts on anchor system are perfectly level and parallel to playing surface. A slight rotation of the nuts may be required to produce a level surface before mounting the main pole. b) Install (4) metal washers (A2) on top of anchor bolts and install main pole as shown in diagram with welded bracket facing away from playing surface. Place (4) metal washers (A2) on top of base plate followed by (4) lock washers (A3) and (4) nuts (A1) and tighten. Make sure that base plate is square to playing surface. 10 2. Lower Extension Arm Assembly Lift the lower extension arm over main pole and lower to point of holes in arm being level with lower holes in main pole. Install bolt (E) with (1) metal washer (O) through hole as shown in diagram. Plastic washers (S) will be between the main pole and lower extension arm, and may be factory attached. Once the bolt is through the main pole and other side of lower extension arm, install (1) metal washer (O) followed by nut (K). 4. Lift Assist and Height Indicator Assembly a) Slide sleeve for spring assembly (X) through upper portion of spring cartridge prior to insertion of bolt (D). b) Place (1) spring cartridge behind main pole and install upper bolt (D) with (1) metal washer (N) through first side of lower extension arm. 3. Height Actuator Assembly Place height actuator behind main pole and install bottom bolt (A), metal washers (N), plastic washers (R) and nut (J) as shown in diagram. Plastic washers (R) are installed between welded bracket and height actuator. Rotate handle to lengthen the actuator to the point where the upper holes are properly aligned with the holes on the rear of the upper extension arm. Install top bolt (C), metal washers (N), and nut (J). c) After the height indicator is in place, push upper bolt (D) through (1) plastic washer (R), and (1) spring cartridge. Prior to inserting bolt through the other side of the lower extension arm install (1) plastic washer (R). Once bolt passed through lower extension arm attach (1) metal washer (N) followed by nut (J). d) Align bottom holes of spring cartridge with designated holes on extension plate. 11 install plastic washer (R) the other upper extension arm with (1) metal washer (N) followed by nut (J). e) Install lower bolt (B) with (1) metal washer (N) through hole as shown in diagram. After bolt is through the cartridge install (1) metal washer (N) followed by nut (J). 6. Backboard Assembly 5. Upper Extension Arms Assembly Align (1) Upper Extension Arm with upper hole in main pole. Install bolt (F) with (1) metal washer (N) through hole as shown in diagram. Once the bolt is through the upper extension arm install (1) plastic washer (R) between main pole. After bolt has passed through main pole, a) Raise backboard so front of backboard is facing the playing surface as shown in diagram. Align the holes behind the rim with the holes at the end of the lower extension arms. Install bolt (G) with (1) metal washer (N) through designated holes. Plastic washers (R) between lower extension arm and backboard frame may be factory attached. Once the bolt is through backboard frame and lower extension arms, install (1) metal washer (N) followed by nut (J). Do not fully tighten nut until instructed to do so later in the installation process. b) Raise front of backboard to be perpendicular to playing surface. Align Upper Extension Arms with Upper Backboard Attachments and install bolts (H), metal washers (M), plastic washers (Q), and nuts (I) as shown in 12 of the backboard install (4) metal washers, and (4) flange nuts as shown in diagram. Check rim for level and tighten all four nuts. b) Install Rim Plate on base of rim with (2) machine screws and tighten. diagram. 8. Remove Spacer from Spring Cartridge Remove (1) spacer from spring cartridge at this time. 7. Rim and Net Assembly a) Install (4) carriage bolts through holes in rim plate Lift this assembly and place bolts through the four designated holes on the backboard. On the opposite side 13 c) Backboard Padding has already been installed, but it is necessary to verify firm attachment to backboard before playing. 9. Safety Pin & Height Sticker Installation a) Place end of tape measure on top edge of rim and raise backboard to a measurement of 10’H. Once the height of 10’above the playing surface is achieved place height marker sticker on side of spring cartridge as shown in diagram. b) Install Safety Pin (W) through designated hole and secure with ring as shown in diagram. 11. Maintenance Like any piece of hardware proper maintenance is required. Several factors such as the environment, organic materials, herbicides, pesticides, excessive use, or misuse can eventually cause the system to require periodic maintenance. Failure to do so could result in system failure, property damage, or even personal injury. a) Keep all organic materials (grass clippings, garbage, etc.) away from the steel pole or base plate to alleviate any chance of rust penetrating the powder coated finish. b) Clean the backboard periodically with water and a soft cotton cloth. Approved glass cleaners work as well to maintain the clear view glass backboard. To properly clean the system components use a soft, non‐abrasive cloth and water with a mild detergent. Do not use abrasive materials to clean as it could damage the powder‐coated finish on your basketball system. c) If you see any signs of rust on the system remove the loose paint, gently sand the area, and apply outdoor enamel gloss paint to the affected area. 12. Routine System Inspection 10. Protective Padding Assembly a) Install gusset pad over base of pole as shown in diagram and connect Velcro straps in rear to secure pad. b) Install pole pad by mounting to pole directly on top of the gusset pad. Connect Velcro straps in rear to secure pole pad. Before each use inspect the basketball system for any signs of the following: Loose nuts and bolts All parts and components for excessive wear and tear Any signs of rust or corrosion If replacement parts are needed, please contact Mega Slam Hoops, LLC. Only replacement parts from Mega Slam Hoops, LLC should be used in the repair process. Use of other parts may cause the system to fail resulting in serious injury or death and will void the manufacturers’ limited lifetime warranty. 14 MEGA SLAM HOOPS LIMITED LIFETIME WARRANTY MEGA SLAM HOOPS LIMITED LIFETIME WARRANTY coverage extends only to the original retail Consumer Purchaser that Mega Slam Hoops (the “Product”) structural components are warranted to be free from defects in material and workmanship, subject to the limitations described below. “Defects” is defined as imperfections that impair the use of the product. “THE MEGA SLAM HOOPS LIMITED LIFETIME WARRANTY COVERAGE IS EXTENDED ONLY TO THE ORIGINAL RETAIL PURCHASER AND TERMINATES IF THE ORIGINAL RETAIL PURCHASER OTHERWISE TRANSFERS OR SELLS THE PRODUCT. THIS WARRANTY IS VOID IF THE PRODUCT HAS BEEN DAMAGED BY IMPROPER SERVICE, NEGLIGENCE, ACCIDENT, UNREASONABLE USE, IMPROPER INSTALLATION, OR OTHER CAUSES NOT RESULTING FROM DEFECTS IN MATERIAL AND WORKMANSHIP. Subject to proper installation in accordance with the installation instructions; normal residential use for glass backboards; normal basketball related activities; and has been maintained in agreement with the instructions. WARRANTY CLAIMS: Proof of purchase by the original retail Consumer Purchaser is required for all warranty claims. Mega Slam Hoops, LLC reserves the right to examine physical evidence or photographs of the Product, or component parts, claimed to be defective, and to recover said Product, prior to authorizing a warranty claim. If applicable, a “Return Merchandise Authorization” (RMA) number will be required prior to shipping damaged Product by original retail Consumer Purchaser with freight prepaid. In returning a Product or component part for repair or replacement under this warranty, the original Consumer Purchaser must prepay all shipping transportation, insurance and delivery costs, and the Product or component parts, must be delivered in either its original carton or a similar package affording an equal degree of protection. Mega Slam Hoops, LLC will not be responsible for any loss or damage incurred in connection with the return of this Product or component parts. LIMITED LIFETIME WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER THE FOLLOWING: This warranty shall not apply to any Product which has been subjected to misuse, abuse, abnormal use, negligence, alteration, accident, improper installation, vandalism, or fire Paint, rusted parts, surface scratches, fading, discoloration, or cracks that do not affect the functionality of the Product Damage or deterioration due to time or normal wear and tear Damage due to “Acts of God”, include, but are not limited to, such things as flooding, tornados, hail, lightening, sandstorms, windstorms, or earthquakes Damage due to “Environmental Factors”, include, but are not limited to, such things as airborne fallout, chemicals, ocean spray, or wind borne sand Shipping charges both ways for warranted or replaced items must be prepaid by the original retail Consumer Purchaser in advance. Dealer service charges, labor charges, or travel expenses. All labor costs, travel expenses, and other charges involved in the installation, inspection, service, or replacement of the Product, or replacement of component parts shall be the original retail Consumer Purchaser’s responsibility. THIS WARRANTY IS MADE EXPRESSLY IN LIEU OF ALL OTHER WARRANTIES, EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO ANY IMPLIED WARRANTY MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND ALL OTHER OBLIGATIONS ON THE PART OF MEGA SLAM HOOPS, LLC PROVIDED, HOWEVER, THAT IF THE DISCLAIMER OF IMPLIED WARRANTIES IS EFFECTIVE UNDER APPLICABLE LAW, THE DURATION OF ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES ARISING BY OPERATION OF LAW SHALL BE LIMITED TO ONE (1) YEAR FROM THE DATE OF PURCHASE OR SUCH LONGER PERIOD AS MAY BE REQUIRED BY APPLICABLE LAW.
