Only amateurs may participate. (This includes schools where drama istaught as a school
subject or private drama schools, as well as tertiary institutions.)
Any one-act play, musical, cabaret or literature programme may be entered; provided that
either dialogue, costumes, movement, décor or props areincorporated in the
programme.This includes any one man presentations, including poetry, prose or
monologue.
Length of plays: minimum 15 minutes -maximum 45 min. Under NO circumstances will extra
time be allowed.
Please note that entry forms must be completed in full. All actors and the characters they
portray, technical staff as well as the Directorand dramatist must be on the entry form. NO
last minute changes will be accepted. Please adhere to the closing date for entries. By failing
to do so, unnecessary pressure is placed on the management who have to finalise rehearsal
times and plan the programme.
Décor and props must be planned carefully and be restricted to aminimum. Please note that
the festival is organised by a private non-profitable organization andcannot claim any chairs,
tables or other furniture. It is your responsibility to transport your décor toMontagu. The
committee will assist wherever possible.
Ten minutes are allowed between plays. (Five minutes to dismantleand five minutes to set
décor for the next play)No decor may be left behind the stage as this restrictsmovement of
actors and technical staff, especially when a play has a large cast. Please ensure that all backstage activities are carefully planned in order to prevent any disturbances and crisis that may
occur.
A stage and lighting plan will be provided on request to participating schools / groups.
The management will try to allow 30 minutes rehearsal time for all participants. This
opportunity must be utilised to plan all back stage activities, the positioning ofdecor and the
marking of their positions with masking tape and to do a light and sound rehearsal.
Rehearsal times will be finalised within 2 weeks after the closing date for entries.
Stage management, sound and lighting are under the control of the Youth Arts Festival
committee. Anyspecial effects or requests must be discussed and planned well in advance.
Every school/group must have their own sound and light operator(s) whom must work in
conjunction with the control room operators.
Two copies of each play, as well as the entry fee must accompany the fully completed entry
form. Only paid entries willbe accepted.
Performing rights must be obtained from DALRO, P.O.Box 9292 Johannesburg 2000 or the
dramatist. Please state clearly if it is a NEW PLAY.
Two adjudicators will adjudicate each play. A brief discussion will be held after each session,
which iscompulsory for all participants. The trophy winners will be announced during a gala

event on the final evening of play. All directors and headmasters are cordially invited to
attend the gala evening.
Entries can be made in the following divisions: A. Primary schoolB. High school C. Post School
The entry fee will be R250,00per play/R100 for other sections, ie, poetry, prose or
monologue and will offer the following:
Entry to the terrain and venue for all participants on the day of their performance which
includes viewing competing productions on the same day.
Entry fee to view productions is R20,00for adults and R10,00 for schoolgoing pupils.
For the purposes of marketing your play to encourage people to attend, the Festival
committee welcomes you to provide a separate advertising poster, so long as it reaches them
by the 14th July 2012. There will be an award for the best poster. Posters will be on display
during the art exhibitions a week prior to the start of the drama productions when they will
be moved to the performance venue.
Other marketing material is always welcome.

writing and addressed to the MMADD MYAF Festival Committee and reach them well in advance at
the above address.
PLEASE NOTE: The content of the plays must be suitable for school audiences. No blasphemous
remarks, discrimination, obscenity or political views will be allowed. The use of harsh foul language is
not permitted.
If, however, the context of the play is such that it may not suit school audiences, please indicate on
the form and motivate in the section that provides for ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.
