Changes Initiated by TSPC INITIAL I BASIC* CONTINUING* INITIAL II* STANDARD* All of these have either been renamed or eliminated. *If you hold one of these, you will be granted a Professional Teaching License CHANGES TO LICENSES •Preliminary Teaching license –New and novice teachers –May renew until qualify for Professional Teaching License –3 year license •Professional Teaching license –Teachers with advanced competencies and experience –Requires 4 years full time experience –Requires completion of advanced professional development or educational program –5 year license Teacher Leader license -Optional license -Teachers with professional leadership activities -Must first qualify for professional or equivalent license -Requires at least 5 years recent teaching experience -5 year license Legacy Teaching license -Veteran teachers -Held Oregon Basic teaching license prior to 1999 -Not eligible for Professional Teaching License -3 year license AUTHORIZATION LEVELS PreK - 12 authorization all teaching licenses Grade-specific levels (ECE/ELE/ML/HS) are abolished. Educators may teach their endorsed subjects in all school levels as indicated in the TSPC license guide. ENDORSEMENTS AND SPECIALIZATIONS One set of endorsements and specializations - all teaching licenses Old endorsement types converting to new ones Middle level/multiple subjects endorsement was eliminated on 7/1/2015. Until renewal, these teachers may continue in their current assignment. No longer required to take university or college coursework to renew your license. PDUs (Professional Development Units) are the primary method 25 PDUs per year for each year of the license 150 for your initial Professional License *must be advanced! Still calculated the same: 1 hour of continuing PDU activity = 1 PDU; 1 quarter hour of college credit = 20 PDUs; or 1 semester hour of college credit = 30 PDUs. Developed jointly with the applicant and employing district Based on the employing school district evaluations of the applicant Aligned with annual performance goals of applicant Specifically tailored to advance the applicant from novice to professional skill level PDUs must include activities intended to increase the effectiveness as an educator. PDU activities must fall within one of seven Standards for Professional Learning.
