NCAA CERTIFICATION Self-Study Update Dr. Robin Forman Dean of Undergraduate Students Leslie Claybrook Associate Athletic Director/Senior Woman Administrator March 4, 2008 NCAA Certification Self-Study • Self-awareness – opportunity to educate individuals across campus about the athletics program’s goals and purposes, the many challenges facing athletics, and the ways in which athletics supports the institution’s mission. • Affirmation – self-study process reveals many aspects of the athletics program worthy of praise. • Opportunities to improve – even an outstanding program can be better. The self-study process offers a forum for suggestions from individuals with a wide range of experience. NCAA Athletics Certification Process Step No. 1 Orientation videoconference and institution begins self-study process (Sept-Nov). Step No. 2 Institution develops selfstudy report. Step No. 3 Self-study report submitted via ACS May 1, 2008. Step No. 5 Full committee (CAC) reviews self-study report and approves issues. Step No. 4 NCAA staff liaison reviews report for preliminary issues. Report developed September - April Step No. 6 Institution has option to respond to CAC analysis. July 15 – August 15 May 1 – June 30 NCAA Athletics Certification Timeline • Aug. 31, 2007 - Members of the steering committee and subcommittees approved by President Leebron. • Sept.14, 2007 - NCAA Orientation Videoconference. • Sept. – Oct. 2007 - Subcommittees meet to discuss duties and responsibilities for completing the self-study. • Nov. 2007 – Jan. 2008 - Subcommittees gather, interview and analyze information. • Jan. 22, 2008 - Steering committee meeting/teleconference to discuss subcommittees work on self-study. • Feb. – Mar. 2008 - Subcommittees continue to gather and analyze information, begin preparing self-study. • Mar. 4, 2008 – Presentation to the Administrators’ Forum. • Apr. 2008 - Subcommittees produce a final draft of self-study.
