Mammoth Trip 1703

Mammoth Trip 1703
The Snowdrifter’s 3rd trip of the ’17 season to Mammoth got off to a great start! Domino’s was right on
time delivering to our El Norte Parkway stop and we enjoyed warm pizzas as we left San Diego. Also
headed to Mammoth this weekend was another ski club, Action, with our bus driver, Jim, winning the
race to the condos.
With weather in the low 40s each day it was perfect spring skiing conditions and the wind cooperated all
weekend long. A group of us even took the opportunity for a selfie on the top of the mountain.

For those intermediate skiers it was nice to find Cornice back to having the top groomed for easy entry;
though a couple snowboarders still had some trouble making their way into the run.
After a late night getting in and a hard day of skiing each condo enjoyed an easy to prepare spaghetti
and homemade meatball dinner. We ended the evening with a group social of White Russians, or rather
Green Russians (thanks Candy for bringing the green food coloring so we could appropriately celebrate
St. Patrick’s Day)!
While we don’t guarantee engagements on our trips, first time Snowdrifters’ Karl and Alia had such a
fabulous time with the club that they marked the occasion by getting engaged on Saturday!
Saturday’s dinner included door side delivery of fresh and hot rotisserie chickens from Vons for a build
your own taco night with all the fixings.
On Sunday, the San Diego Alpine League held four Giant-Slalom races on Terry’s Run off the Broadway
chair. We had 10 racers participate with a total trophy count of: 12 gold, 9 silver, and 8 bronze metals.
First time Snowdrifter Carrie participating in her first giant slalom race (that’s right they let
snowboarders race too)!
After three full days of skiing the group was ready to relax on the ride home. We made a quick stop by
Schat’s Deli to pick up sandwiches for dinner and drank champagne to celebrate the recent engagement
as we rode off into the sunset.
