Blues In The Schools
The Bruce County Blues is once again bringing Blues to our schools. On Thursday,
May 11, 2017, The Ghost Town Blues Band will be performing at H.H.P.S. at 1:45 p.m.
Parents are welcome to attend the school performance or they can attend an evening
performance at the Bruce Steak House in Kincardine, at 8:00 p.m. Saturday, May 13th.
(No cover for elementary students.) It’s a great chance for parents to share in our
learning. Thanks go to the Bruce County Blues for offering these live professional blues
performances at no charge to the schools!
Jump Rope / Hoops for Heart
We had our kick off assembly on Apr. 27 where students learned about heart health, were encouraged to stay active,
and challenged to raise funds and awareness for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Please return all funds collected
for our school event scheduled for Fri. May 19. Thanks!
May Character Trait – Integrity
“How do you practice it? You practice integrity by thinking about the virtues that matter to you and doing your best
to live by them. When you make a mistake, you clean it up. You don’t follow the crowd. You think for yourself.
You don’t say one thing and do another. You do the right thing even when no one is watching. Even when it is hard
to do the right thing, you stand strong” (The Virtues Project)
French Café
We are looking forward to our annual French Café with Mdme Battler on Wed. May 3. There will be French
plays to entertain and Gr. 8 students to facilitate and serve. A note was sent home earlier stating that students
have the option of making food purchases: crepe (avec chocolat ou confiture de fraises $1.25, croissant - $1.00,
lemonade - $.50.
Living Library
Thank you to Mrs. Johnston for organizing a ‘living library’ for students in grades 6-8 for our school, as well as
Lucknow and Teeswater, on June 6. Details to follow.
Kindergarten Orientation
Parents and students who will be starting school with us for the first time in Sept. are invited to come to the
school for a brief orientation time on Thurs. June 8 at 9:30 a.m. It will be a chance to learn a little bit more
about the school as well as to take a short bus ride. Please pass this information along to anyone who might be
starting with us but haven’t registered yet.
Scholastic Book Fair
We are looking forward to our Scholastic Book Fair the week of May 15. Please contact the school if you are able to
volunteer in any capacity to help with sales. All funds raised will go toward purchasing literacy resources for our
library and school. More details will follow.
School Cash Online
School Cash Online is now up and running! There are many
benefits for both home and school and it is our preferred
method of payment.
EQAO
Grade 3 and 6 students will be participating in the Educational
Quality and Accountability Office’s (EQAO) again this year
along with the rest of the province. Grade 3 is scheduled from
Tues. May 23 – Thurs. May 25 and Grade 6 will be from Wed.
May 24 – Fri. May 26, and both are in the mornings. Any
necessary make up days will happen the following week. Please avoid scheduling appointments during this time if
possible.
Turn Off the Screens Week, May 2-6
The primary goal of the challenge is to increase physical activity levels of children, youth and their families. During
the seven days, families are encouraged to turn off the televisions, computer and video games and get moving. Even
if you choose not to completely eliminate screen time, you may choose a goal like cutting it in half for the week.
Climate Survey
Please take a few minutes and fill out a school climate survey if you have not done so already. Surveys are
completed in schools across Ontario and provide valuable information for our continued effort to prevent bullying
and harassment. The survey can be found online at www.edu-climate-surveys.ca. The access code is 4-NHZ-617-B.
Paper copies of the survey are also available at the school. The survey will be open until May 29.
Class Placements for 2016-2017
Staffing and classroom organization discussions for next school year will be starting in early June. We put a lot of
thought into creating classes that will set everybody up for as much success as possible. If there are exceptional
circumstances regarding classroom placements that you think should be considered, please let us know no later than
June 2. Class placements will be available on the first day of school in the fall. We do our best to avoid making any
changes to classroom placements in Sept., however, it is always possible that changes will be necessary if our
enrolment changes. Thank you.
QSP Magazine Campaign
We will continue to offer our QSP Magazine Campaign next year. If you have a magazine you would like to order
or renew, please consider doing so through the school. QSP will match all offers or coupons. If you wish to order a
magazine before Sept. you can go to www.qsp.ca and please be sure to select our school so that we receive the
benefit.
