Unit
1. Number of Players
-There are 6 players in a team. 3 in the front row and 3 in the
back row.
2. Maximum Hits
-There is a maximum of 3 hits per side (or team).
3. Consecutive Hits
-A player may not hit the ball twice in succession.
-A block is not considered a hit.
4. The net
-The ball may be played off the net during a volley and on a
serve that goes over.
5. A Volley
-When the ball is played and hit back and forth, this is
considered a volley.
Rules
6. Boundary Line
-A ball hitting the boundary line is “IN”
7. Ball is Out
-If the ball hits completely outside the boundary line
8. Game Play
-To get play started, a team is chosen to serve by a coin toss.
9. Rotation of players
- If your team is serving: rotate clockwise when you lose a
point
- If your team is not serving: rotate clockwise when you win a
point
10. First to reach 21by two or more points wins.

1. Illegal Hits
-It is illegal to catch, hold, or throw the ball.
-Intentionally using any other body part
2. Two Players Hitting the ball at the same time
-If two or more players hit the ball at the same time,
this is considered one play (or hit)
-Either player involved may hit the ball next
3. Blocks
-A player cannot block or attack a serve!

4. Points Earned
• A point is earned when the other team results in a
violation
-When serving and stepping over the line
-Failure to serve the ball over the net
-Contacting the ball illegally
-Touching the net with any body part
-Crossing the court centerline with any body part
-Serving out of order
-Back row player attacking the ball inside the front
zone

• Set: making contact with the ball above your head using
palms and finger tips
• Bump: making contact with the ball below your chest
using your forearms
• Spike: powerful hit aimed directly towards the floor
• Serve: hitting the ball to initiate battle for each point
• Block: obstructing opponent to hit ball over the net
without crossing sides
• Dig: diving or crouching to save a low ball from hitting
the ground
• Three hit cycle: bump, set, spike
