D. Move Out Day

FINAL EXAM
D. MOVE-OUT DAY
(25 points)
Help students recycle their stuff on Move-Out
day!
University Housing has partnered with student
leaders, the Office of Sustainability, and WE
CONSERVE to engage students in an activity
that integrates the academic community with
campus operations: the Residence Halls MoveOut event.
How Can You Sign Up?
Go to http://go.wisc.edu/recycle-volunteer. This will take you to Signup Genius. You can select your
two slots (each 2 hours) on these days:
Saturday, May 7, 2016
Monday, May 8, 2016
Tuesday, May 9, 2016
Wednesday, May 10, 2016
Thursday, May 11, 2016 Note #1: Our final exam is at 5:05 pm Thursday.
Friday, May 12, 2016
Note #2: Your report is due 1 pm in Canvas.
At these locations:
Lakeshore: Dejope, Holt/Leopold, Tripp
Southeast: Chadbourne, Ogg, Sellery, Smith, Witte
Rover assistant
Remember to sign up for two 2-hour slots.
This is a 4-hour time commitment, comparable to what it would
take to go out on the bike trail and remove trash.
Why select this assignment (as compared to the other choices)?
This is a way to give back to the campus and your fellow students. Rain or
shine, you’re likely to have a good time working with others. And it’s lowkey.
Due: Friday, May 13th, 1:00 pm in Canvas.
No late option. We cannot accept submissions after this date
because we need to assign grades.
This date is after your final exam on Thursday, giving you the opportunity to sign up for a
morning shift on Friday, May 13.
Goals of this activity
(1)
(2)
(3)
(4)
Reduce the amount of stuff that goes from campus to the landfill.
Increase the amount of stuff that gets recycled and reused at Goodwill and St. Vinnies.
Learn that clothing, furniture, appliances, and carpet have value.
Suggest the possibility that you will donate goods of value to a local not-for-profit organization
in the future.
Your Powerpoint slides need to contain:



A photo of you at the Move-Out recycling site. Hey, take two photos!
At least one comment from you of how it all went (smoothly, we hope, but perhaps you have a
suggestion for future students).
The days & times you signed up for Move-Out.
Hints for success?
Yes, we have some suggestions to help you be successful in this activity:

Sign up sooner rather than later. Get the time slots that you want. If all the slots are taken, you
are out of luck for this particular assignment.

Talk to those who bring items. Say hello, say thank you, say something! Everybody appreciates
a kind face and a friendly word.

Be prepared for anything. For example, sometimes nobody shows up with stuff on your shift. No
problem! It is important that somebody be staffing the site, customers or not.
Q: What might you do if the site is not busy?
A: Take your photos. Write the comment that goes with your photos.
