Previous Investment - Basketball England

Previous Investment
Indoor Capital Investment
As part of our whole sport plan funding Basketball England receives a limited amount of capital
funding from Sport England to assist with the development of basketball facilities across the country.
Details of our previous investments and current projects can be found on this page.
Basketball England Community Club Development Programme 2003-2008
The Community Club Development Programme (CCDP) was a collaboration between Sport England,
the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), and National Governing Bodies of Sport.
Basketball England invited clubs with suitable facilities projects to apply for funding and investment.
We then worked in partnership with Sport England to ensure projects were delivered. Between 2003
and 2008, Basketball England was awarded just over £2.3 million from the DCMS and Sport England
to invest in Capital Projects. Basketball England awarded grants to 8 projects in total creating;



6 new basketball courts including 1 specifically for mini basketball
3 refurbished facilities suitable for national league competitions
1 coach, official and volunteer classroom.
Our investment into these clubs and facilities has had significant impact on basketball participation
and Basketball England registered membership. Through the CCDP capital funding programme clubs
have received regular access to facilities and have been able to increase the number of people
playing basketball on a regular basis, increase the number of qualified coaches and officials as well
as increasing the number volunteers involved in our sport.
After the success of the Community Club Development Programme, Sport England allocated
Basketball England £1.6 million for Capital Investment between 2009 and 2013.
To date we have provided capital awards to the projects listed below University of East London, Newham All Star Sports Academy

Outdoor Capital Investment
During the late 1990’s and early 2000’s Basketball England created the Outdoor Basketball Initiative
(OBI) with the aim of increasing the number and accessibility of outdoor basketball courts. Over 3300
OBI courts and over 7000 goals still exist and the locations of these courts can be found via our
‘places to play’ page
