About the BIDs:
The Flatbush Avenue Business Improvement District and Church Avenue Business Improvement
Districts are autonomous, non-profit organizations with joint management that provide services to
keep Flatbush Avenue from Parkside Avenue to Cortelyou Road, and Church Avenue from Coney
Island Avenue to Flatbush Avenue clean, safe, and successful commercial corridors.
Position Overview:
1. Plan and implement the Church Avenue BID’s Resource Fair (tentative date is Wed. 3/18/15), a
one-day event designed to connect BID businesses with vetted visual merchandising, marketing,
and advertising companies.
 Research and recruit at least eight presenters specializing in visual merchandizing, web
design, print and online advertising, and social media.
 Publicize the event to BID members through print, online, and door-to-door outreach to
secure participation.
 Organize and manage the event-day logistics.
 Create a directory of marketing professionals familiar with the marketing needs of small
businesses and make this list available to all BID members.
2. Assist with the marketing and promotion of Flatbush Avenue BID businesses and BID events,
including the BID’s annual Street Fair (tentative date is Sun. 6/14/15). Responsibilities will
include:
 Performing in-person outreach to BID businesses to inform them of and enroll them in BID
events/programs (involves working with information databases/mailing lists).
 Assisting to develop and distribute promotional and informational materials for BID
programs and events including posters, printouts, and web-based marketing.
 Creating content for social media sites (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn).
Benefits:
The Coordinator will be supervised primarily by our Deputy Executive Director but will also work on
some projects independently with minimal supervision. This is a great opportunity for motivated
individuals - former interns and part-time staff have gone on to work in settings as varied as the
NYC Dept. of Transportation, real estate development, and a full-time planning position with
another BID. This position provides the Coordinator with the opportunity to:

 Increase experience using social media technology, ideas, trends and tools.
 Gain experience in marketing small businesses and economic development initiatives.
 Gain valuable experience interacting one-on-one with diverse groups, small and mediumsized businesses, property owners, City agencies, and offices of local politicians.
 Participate in regular staff meetings discussing and planning various BID projects; The
Coordinator is encouraged to share ideas and participate in the planning.
 Build skills in program management, writing, and collaborative planning.
Desired Education/Experience/Skills:
 College or graduate level student pursuing Marketing, Communications, or similar degree
with an interest in nonprofit management, business development, urban planning, and/or
community planning.
 Must be comfortable speaking with new people and diverse groups.
 Good computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
 Self-motivation and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
 Experience using Facebook, Twitter, YouTube.
 Experience with HTML, WordPress, and/or SharePoint is a plus.
 Excellent writing and verbal skills.
