Initiative of
Sharjah Environment and Protected Areas Authority
Aim
To promote the partnership principle of the environmental work which constitutes the fundamental
pillar in supporting Sharjah’s strategic project for protecting the environment natural resources and
preserving its biodiversity, through raising the level of environmental awareness of students by inspiring
them to create and implement sustainable solutions to the environmental problems around them in order
to build a green environment in a sustainable framework.

sustainable learning environment and promote the concept of green economy.

Objectives
1. Entrench the principles of sustainable development in the education sector of universities, as one
of the most important and largest constituent sector of the society.
2. Activate the environmental education role and its significance in working towards achieving the
goals of sustainable development in universities.
3. Mainstreaming the environmental culture concept amongst various sectors of students in all
universities.
4. Foster the sense of social environmental responsibility among students through assigning a key
role for them in implementing the award project.
5. Activate universities’ activities that are aimed at excellence in the environmental field through
stimulating the spirit of competition among universities to create and implement sustainable
environmental solutions to protect the environment natural resources and biodiversity.
6. Activate the efforts of spreading the culture of green economy and proper sound relationship with
the environment natural systems by universities and communities.
Award Specifications

Appreciation specific standards award granted to students and members of faculty who create
innovative and unique environmental projects that met the award terms and criteria.

The primary focus of the award is to apply a sustainable environmental project which will
contribute to the consolidation of the principles of sustainable development in Sharjah.

The winner will be granted a cash prize, SSA trophy and a certificate of excellence.

The non-winners will be granted participation certificates.

Participation Domains
1st Domain
The Design of a Smart Application of Information that is related to one of the following themes:
A- One of the following Desert Park learning centers at EPAA:
 Arabia’s Wildlife Center.
 Natural History & Botanical Museum
 Islamic Botanical garden.
 Kalba Bird of Prey Center.
B- The design of an interactive map of the terrestrial environment locations in Sharjah.
2nd Domain
The field of Applied Scientific Research on the subject of sustainable solutions to the
and urgent environmental problems in Sharjah.

Terms & Conditions
1. The applicant (s) should be one of full-time study student enrolled for the current academic year
2015 / 2016.
2. The applicant (s) can participate in only one domain and one award category.
3. The projects that are being offered to win the prize should have never been awarded another
award before.
4. The submitted project should be in the framework of the overall award objectives, terms and
criteria.
5. The chosen project’s domain should abide by its specified conditions and criteria.
6. The winner (s) should submit a development plan that includes a range of performance indicators
for the development and continuity and of the winning project based on the award criteria.
7. The winner agrees to allow EPAA to disseminate the results of the winning applied research on
its website and social media.
8. EPAA reserves the right to benefit and use the winning smart application on site

EPAA, the official award organizer, is not obliged to refund the winning projects.

2. The team should include 4 students only.
3. The participant (s) should not have previously
submitted an applied research of the same title and
content for other awards.
4. The participant(s) should submit a descriptive file
about the research.
5. The participant should abide by the award criteria
& conditions that are specified for the applied
research.
6. The submitted research should be bilingual (both in
Arabic & English language).
7. The participant (s) should submit the original copy
of the research.
8. The submitted research must be the participant’s
and advisor’s ownership original creation and they
bear full responsibility and accountability.
Criteria
All entries will be evaluated by a panel of judges from the Environment and Protected Areas Authority
and the collaborative parties. Each project will be evaluated based on its specified criteria. Each of the
judging criteria has an associated point value. The total number of points possible for each project is
1000 points.

Submission Terms and Conditions
A descriptive file for the award project (posters & smart application) must be submitted in the
form of paper file and a flash or CD – ROM. The file should cover the following key points:



The motives and reasons for choosing the domain.
An overview of the project’s goals, importance and benefits.
Project’s procedural plan for its implementation and evaluation.
 The expected results and impacts of spreading the project.

The descriptive file of the project (posters & smart application) should be submitted to
EPAA headquarters’ administrative office. (Location Map will be sent).

