MATCH CONFLICTS

only schedule around match conflicts between the following divisions. PLEASE
NOTE that if any other match conflicts occur, the player must forfeit one of the
matches. No exceptions. No refunds. The BCAPL will schedule around conflicts
between the following divisions:
 Amateur Singles (9-Ball, 8-Ball, Senior 8-Ball, Junior 9-Ball)
 Scotch Doubles
 9-Ball Teams
 CONFLICTS BETWEEN OTHER DIVISIONS ARE AT THE COMPLETE
RISK OF THE PLAYER
 Note: a person may only play in one 8-ball team division
FARGO RATINGS
Fargo Ratings will now be used in the BCAPL National Championships to replace
the outdated system of rating players as Leisure, Open, Advanced, Master, &
Grandmaster. For players with at least 200 games of data in the FargoRate system,
their Fargo Rating is considered firm. For those with fewer than 200 games of data,
the Fargo Rating is considered preliminary and an initial Fargo Rating will be
assigned by the BCAPL. This initial rating will be based on any existing national,
regional, state, or local rating or known ability of the player.
Example: John has a Fargo Rating of 593 based on 50 games of data. Because John
was formerly rated as Open by the BCAPL, he is given an initial rating of 525.
John’s transitional rating would be calculated by a proportional combination of the
two ratings (593 x 25%) + (525 x 75%). Therefore, John’s transitional rating would
be 542. NOTE: Initial ratings may be adjusted at the discretion of CSI.
MIXED 8-BALL TEAMS INFORMATION

TEAM RATING CHANGES
There will be a 10-point per player “forgiveness cushion” if the team is eligible for a
specific division when they register but one or more members’ ratings move up
before the tournament to push them over the limit. If the team rating moves beyond
this 50-point cushion, they will have the following options:
1. Play and accept a 1-game penalty in each match for every 50 points over the
limit + cushion.
a. Example: A Gold Team is below the 3,000 limit when they register but
their combined rating increases to 3,093 (43 points over the team limit
+ the cushion) – they will incur a 1-game penalty in each match (their
opponents will receive a 1-game spot). If their combined rating
increases to 3,127 (77 points over the team limit + the cushion), they
will incur a 2-game penalty in each match (their opponents will receive
a 2-game spot).
b. Note: If both teams in a match have both been penalized due to being
over the team limit, the penalty in that match will be the difference in
the two penalties. For example, if Team A has a 1-game penalty and
Team B has a 2-game penalty, Team B will incur a 1-game penalty in
that match. If both teams have a 1-game penalty, there will be no
penalty in that match.
2. Move up into the next division (not possible if already registered for Platinum)
3. Replace one or more players to get back within the rating limit
a. Note: team must still meet other requirements (i.e. original players, etc.)
INDIVIDUAL RATING CHANGES
There will be a 10-point “forgiveness cushion” if a player is rated 720 or lower at
the time of registration but his or her rating moves above 720 before the tournament.
If the player’s rating moves beyond this cushion (730), he or she will have the
following options:
1. Play and the team will accept a 1-game penalty in each match for every 25
points over the limit + cushion (730).
a. Example: A player had a rating 720 or below at the time he or she
registered but it increased to 735 after registration was closed (5 over
the limit + cushion) – the team will incur a 1-game penalty in each
match. If the same player’s rating moved to 758 after registration was
closed (28 over the limit + cushion), the team will incur a 2-game
penalty in each match.
2. The team may move up into the next division
a. Note: team must still meet other requirements (i.e. original players,
etc.)
3. The team may replace the player with one that meets the criteria.
a. Note: team must still meet other requirements (i.e. original players,
etc.)
DISQUALIFYING A PLAYER
If a player is consistently and significantly performing above his or her indicated
rating during the event, CSI reserves the right to disqualify the player without
refund. Therefore, if you believe your rating should be adjusted upward for this
event, please contact CSI prior to the registration deadline.
MISC
Once registration is closed and divisions are drawn, no changes are allowed.
