Natal Day Knock Out Rules – Last One Standing
Age Categories:
Races are mass start by Age and Discipline. There are two age classes: Junior
(Under 18 on January 1st), and Senior (Over 18 on January 1st). There are no
races for younger classes, so it is recommended that paddlers be at least 15
years of age to enter.
After each round the back-of-the-pack finishers (see the draw on race day to see
how many) will be eliminated. After several rounds, the field will be reduced to a
grand final of just 3-5 boats to race for fabulous prizes. If you are eliminated,
there is always the ‘Last Chance’ race.
False Starts:
Don’t false start! If you false start, you will be disqualified, this includes being
over the start line when the race is called, not just going early.
Buy Back In:
If you false start and are disqualified, you may buy back into the next round for
$10. Simply paddle to the base of the tower and make it known that you wish to
buy back in. When you return your boat number you pay your $10 and receive
your free Natal Day Tank. You can buy back once, and once only, and must go
into the very next round (you can’t sit out a few rounds to recover).
Last Chance Race:
Before the Final, there will be one last round for all fairly eliminated paddlers
(eliminated by placing, not disqualification). The winner of the “Last Chance
Race” will earn a place in the final. Paddlers disqualified in the round immediately
before the ‘Last Chance’ race MAY NOT buy back in.
Candy Races:
Before every round, a bell will ring indicating that the race is a ‘Candy’ race. One
competitor will be chosen from the field to receive a candy bag. Sometimes it will
be the winner, sometimes a randomly selected participant.
