FALL 2015
JUNIOR TEAM TENNIS
8U RED BALL PLAY DAYS
GENERAL GUIDELINES

Each team must have a minimum of 3 PLAYERS and maximum of 5 PLAYERS in order to play

Players should know the basic rules (what is in and what is out) as well as keeping track of score (clothes
pins will be available to help with scoring)

Racket size is up to 23 inches and will be enforced

Play day consists of five rounds, 10 minutes each round with seven minutes in between rounds to move
courts (we do our best to stay on time)

Each team will play 3 lines singles per round

A “game” is first player to 7 points (by a margin of 1) wins the “game”. Unlimited “games” are played during
the allotted round time; only “games” won are reported on score sheet

Each player serves twice, then the other player serves twice. Continue pattern until one player reaches 7
points.

The serve is done from behind the doubles sideline

Two attempts are allowed per serve and service lets are to be served again

Center line is not enforced on the serve, but players should try to be serving right to left and left to right

Serve is considered ‘in’ when ball lands in front of or on the service line (singles sideline)

Both a bounce serve and an overhead serve are allowed

Only 1 bounce is allowed. If ball bounces more than once, other player gets point

Players should be calling when the ball is out. If they play a ball that was out, then the play continues

Should players disagree on the score in a game, the players will go back to a score that both mutually agree
upon and play from that point

Players may switch sides after each “game” (not during the game)

If the time ends during a game, the player ahead in the game is the winner. If the score of the game in
progress is tied, one final point is played to determine the winner (serving pattern does not change)

Only CAPTAINS are allowed on the court. Please make your team aware of this.

Only CAPTAINS are allowed to speak to the player and may ‘coach’ after a round has completed. To coach
is to give advice/recommendations to player while game is in progress.

Only CAPTAINS or a monitor may assist/correct players, when needed, to understand the rules and to
promote good sportsmanship and fair play. A parent or captain cannot be a monitor for the match their
child/student is playing. We encourage players to make their own calls and keep track of score.

If game count is tied between two of the top three teams at the end of play, then those two teams will play
each other in a 10 minute “extra round” (three lines of singles)
