UML Wireless Network Game Consoles Welcome to the UMass Lowell wireless network. The Information Technology Office is proud to offer wireless network access across campus to provide access to our network and to the Internet. The instructions below will help you connect to the wireless network from a game console. Please call the Help Center if you need assistance. Overview The “uml-game-consoles” wireless network has been upgraded from an earlier setup to a more advanced and specialized network, specifically designed for game consoles. UMass Lowell has classified game consoles as any device from the Sony PlayStation®, Microsoft Xbox®, and the Nintendo® product lines. These game console devices are not primarily used for web access, so this network is designed to allow access only from these specific devices. ALL other devices will be blocked and not allowed on this special network. All recognized game consoles will have full access to use the internet in any way – there are no restrictions on this network. Connecting Your Game Console On your game console, go to the wireless connection screen and select the “uml-game-consoles” network (the exact steps will vary from model to model…refer to your owner’s manual for more information). Your device should connect without any further prompts and you should be online. If your game console has a wired network port, you can plug it into a live Ethernet jack instead. Connecting Non-Game Consoles If you wish to connect another kind of device (laptop, smart phone, etc) to the UMass Lowell wireless network, you should connect to the “uml-student” (for students) or “uml-admin” (for faculty/staff) network. Instructions for connecting to this network can be found here: http://www.uml.edu/IT/Services/Get-connected/Wireless.aspx Connection Issues If you connect to the “uml-game-consoles” network from a device which is not recognized as a supported game console, your network access will be limited to a support page. In this case, opening a web browser on your game console would bring you to the help screen referenced below: If your device is not recognized as a game console and you think it should be, please call the IT Help Center at 978-9344357 (x4357) or email at [email protected].
