Dear Parents and Students

Congratulations on your acceptance to the 5th grade AM TOPS -Technology
class at Northwestern University’s EDUPRIZE Campus for the 17-18 year!
In case you are curious, EDUPRIZE participates in the Diploma Program. Each
class is representing a real life college, and you are going to have the opportunity to
earn academic degrees throughout the year. To start the year off right, you can do
some research about NU over the summer. Who founded the college? What year? City?
State? Mascot? Colors? Can you find it on Google Earth? This will be a great
opportunity for you to learn a little bit about our college prior to attending. You can
bring your research on the first day of school!
I am Professor Rogers, but you can just call me Miss Rogers. I am a
Gilbert native and now reside in Mesa. I have been teaching EDUPRIZE students for 20 years!
Besides teaching, I love being the “favorite aunt” to my 23 nieces and nephews. This summer, I
enjoyed swimming, doing some home improvement projects, and spending time with my wonderful
family. What fun activities have you been doing? Please plan on sharing your summer
experiences with us during the first week of school.
I love having parent volunteers to help facilitate and enhance the learning process. If
you would like to help me set up the classroom before school starts, please e-mail me at
[email protected], and we can schedule a time to get together. I look
forward to working with you this year!
Please come to Open House on Monday, July 24th at 8:00 a.m. in room 74 in Building 2.
Parents, we are asking you to come at this specific time in order to avoid congestion in the
parking lot. I will be available from 8:00-4:00 (minus a lunch break). Please let me know if you
cannot make the scheduled time, so that we can make arrangements for a time that will work.
This is the time for you to bring supplies into the classroom, move into your desk, see your
classmates, learn about line up, pick up important papers, and visit with me. Below, you will find a
list of suggested and optional school supplies. Please bring $10.00 (cash or check made out to
EDUPRIZE) to pay for your student planner, which will help you stay organized, and a
subscription to Scholastic News magazine.
Our cottages for the year are: Physics Foundry, Invention Convention, Planetarium, and
Body Shop. We are going to have so much fun learning and exploring through these exciting
cottages. EDUPRIZE thrives on using our cottage approach to study science. Each cottage is full
of hands-on learning experiences which teach directly to the Arizona State Science Standards.
Our first day of school is on Wednesday, July 26th. School times are 7:20 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Monday- Friday. On the first day of school, you will meet me at the designated line up spot.
Remember, to be considered enrolled at EDUPRIZE, students must be on time and present
the FULL DAY on the first day of school. Parents, please check our school website
www.eduprizeschools.net frequently for updates. While online, please complete and print the
Open House Forms, which include Emergency Documents, and bring them with you to Open
House.
Enjoy the rest of the summer and read tons of fascinating books.
I can’t wait to start our journey together!
Sincerely,
Shannon Rogers
