Intramural Captain's Meeting Dodgeball Basics of Intramurals • IM Handbook • • • • Eligibility • Forfeit Fee • $20 for team sport/$10 for dual or individual Availability • Must be filled out on imleagues prior to schedule release Scheduling and Conflicts • • Must be UTTyler Student, Faculty, or Staff Request for game reschedule must be emailed to [email protected] 12 hours before game • • • • Requesting does not guarantee a reschedule, it will be handled on a case by case basis Sportsmanship • Team must maintain a 4.0 to be eligible for playoffs Protests • Must be submitted at game time Patriot Cup – Details listed on imleagues Awards – T-Shirts awarded to Champions Dodgeball Basics • 6v6 • Equipment (No Jewelry, No Cleats, No Hats) • Best of 5 series • Each game has a 6 minute time limit Competition Setup • Preseason (2-4 games) • Postseason • Single Elimination • Men’s, Women’s, and Co-Rec Divisions Rules • Six (6) balls will be in play at ALL times. Teams may not possess all balls for more than five (5) seconds. Failure to do so will result in the Official stopping play and balls being distributed evenly between the two teams. • To begin each game, the six (6) balls are placed on the center line. ALL players must be on the end lines. The Official will blow the whistle to start play. Players may then rush the center line to retrieve the balls Rules cont. • All balls must be taken back to the end line before they can be thrown at an opposing player. If the ball is not taken back, the throw will not count. • Play continues until one team is eliminated or the six (6) minute time limit has concluded. At the end of the six (6) minute time limit, the team, with the most players remaining will win the game. In the case of a tie, play will continue as sudden death Rules Cont. • To start, player may not cross the midline. At the one (1) minute mark, players may move up to the opposite throw line. • Clothing is considered part of a player’s body. Any ball that touches clothing is considered an out • When a player is out, he/she must go to the end line and stand in order in which they got out Rules Cont. • If the defender catches a “live” thrown ball, the thrower is out and the next player in line on the defender’s team may return to the game. The player that threw the ball must then go directly to the end of the line before becoming a live player. • If a defender attempts to catch a live ball, but drops it, the defender is out • The defender may block a “live” ball with another ball. That ball is considered dead after contact. If the defender drops his/her ball, the defender is out. Rules Cont. • • • Any ball caught outside the playing area will not count. Players must remain inside the boundaries at all times. (If a player leaves to avoid being hit, they will be called out Substitutes or the last player in line should retrieve stray balls outside the boundaries on their own end. If a team has no substitutes, a player may go retrieve stray balls only by entering/exiting through the end line. If a player leaves out the sideline, they will be called out. Headshots resulting from a high thrown ball will result in the thrower being called out; a headshot caused from a player ducking/dodging will result in the defender being called out. Rules Cont. • Players are expected to follow the honor code; if hit, a player is expected to go out on their own. Officials are in place to make final calls if there are any questions • When put out, players should raise their hand to signal they are out and immediately step off the court • Unsportsmanlike conduct will result in immediate ejection from the game or match Co-Rec Modifications • 6v6, Must have 4 to start • • 3 Men and 3 Women on field Acceptable ratios: 2:2, 3:2, 3:3 Fouls • Any player stepping on or over a throw line is out • Any player leaving playing area is out Sportsmanship • Teams will be assigned a sportsmanlike rating, based on a five (5) point scale, at the end of each game. A sportsmanship rating of a 4.0 must be maintained to make the playoffs. *Sportsmanship ratings will be determined by Intramural Supervisors and the Assoc. Director* • • • • Excellent: 5 points • Good: 4 points • Team demonstrates Fair sportsmanship with very little objecting to officials Fair: 3 points • Team consistently objects and shows lack of respect towards intramural employees Poor: 2 points • • Team demonstrates great sportsmanship; and maintains an attitude of complete cooperation Unsportsmanlike conduct is present; possible ejections and general inappropriate behavior; an ejection is an automatic 2 or lower. Unacceptable: 1 point • Will be awarded to a team: • • For ejections, disregard warnings of unnecessary roughness, unsportsmanlike conduct, abusive language or action, etc. If the team refuses to attempt to control their fans after a request to do so from officials and or IM staff workers.
