Bay Area Discovery Museum 04/08 Tree Frog Treks 04/15 Younger Group Teacher Lai Har, Teacher Ming, Teacher Bao Wen, Dear Parents, Teacher Joyce This month we are pleased to offer many special activities to your children. First of all, we’re excited to start a series of 11 weeks of World Dance lessons with Performing Arts Workshop teacher Vanessa Sanchez. This is a special perk we receive for being an approved Younger Group Special Dates Rachel’s Birthday 04/29 Xin Hao’s Birthday 04/29 Preschool for All Site. Also, on April 8th the children will take a chartered bus over to the beautiful city of Sausalito where the children will be able to enjoy one of the museum’s Idea Labs. In addition, we will be celebrating the Week of the Young Child by inviting Tree Frog Treks to give a special animal presentation for the children on April 15th. This is just a sampling of some of the activities we are looking forward to this month. I would also like to offer a gentle reminder to everyone that children are expected to arrive at True Sunshine no later than 9:30 each morning. When families are late it causes a disturbance to the teachers and children already at the center. It is also stressful for the children who are coming to school at irregular times. Because this continues to be a problem we will start issuing written reminders to the parents that are consistently late. Thank you so much in advance for your understanding. Best, March Activity Highlight In March Teacher Joyce led the children in a shoe guessing game to introduce the new shoe project. The children sat in a circle and everyone put a shoe under a large blanket. The children took turns pulling a shoe out and then the child who it belonged to had to identify the shoe as his own. The children enjoyed this game because of the suspense involved. They waited attentively to see whose shoe would be drawn next. Through the activity the children were introduced to the concept that different people have different shoes. They were able to use turn taking skills to take turns playing the game, math skills to compare the sizes of the shoes, and language skills to talk about the shoes that were selected. They visited one near Waverly Place and one on Grant between Broadway and Pacific. Through our walking trip the children learned to tell the difference between adult shoe sizes and children’s shoe sizes. They learned how to measure their feet in order to determine what size shoe they should wear. They learned how to pick out their own shoes, learned about different types of shoes and various parts of the shoe. For instance, they learned what a shoe tongue, laces, and heels are. In addition, they learned how to read shoe sizes by looking inside the shoes or on the bottom of the shoes and how to organize shoes into pairs.
