COURSE INSTRUCTIONS FOR WESTON PARK 3/6KM EVENT
The gates to the Park open at 7:00am and the toilets should be open as well. As this event is
normally held in November (summer months) it starts at 8:30am. This however, is not a problem as
the course is fairly simple and easy to mark. Note that all major points are near car parks. The 3km
point is about 750m from the Start Line across the paddock and road.
It is advisable all participants obey the parking signs in the Park.
The start of the event is located near the car park/toilet block on the second turnoff on the right as
you travel along Weston Park Road towards the Lake. An arrow or ACTVAC sign at the turn off?
The START/FINISH line is about 80m east of toilet block (behind and south). You will see a small
yellow painted mark with S/F on the bike path (In 2014 we started on the bike path some 30m closer
to the toilet block, you might even spot a silver mark). The actual line is on the adjacent grass area
(See photos and diagram). The suggestion is that maybe the Waddell event starts on the bike path,
Frylink on the adjacent grass and the Thomas further along on the grass. Consequently, the Thomas
will have about 10 paces on the grass before getting onto the bike path.
Steve is on the START Line looking towards Lake. He is where it is expected the Thomas Course
participants would line up.

Steve is pointing to the START Line for the Waddell participants. The Lake is in the background.
The course follows the bike path “north” as it heads towards the Lake. All the major markings on the
course are in yellow but be careful as there are other unrelated yellow marks as well.
For the Short Course, only one marshal is needed and this person is located at the turn point. The
only course markings required are the 1km (which is the 2km return), and the turnaround point.
For the Long Course only one marshal is required, this person should be located at the turnaround
point. This person could easily be the Course Manager. Course markings are required for the 2km,
the turnaround point, the turnoffs from the gravel path (all located around the 2.2km point) and the
multiple intersection about 2.8km where the paths spilt in a number of directions, one of which
leads to the main bike path around the Lake.
The 1km (short &long) which is also the 2km (short) and 5km (long) for the return journey, is
located at the tip of the Weston Park Road cul de sac overlooking the Lake. The actual point is
opposite the 5th post between the path and the disabled parking.
The 1.5km, Short Course turn, is located opposite the access road to the car park and adjacent to
the wooden logs separating the path from the road (SEE PHOTO).

The suggestion for the Short Course turn is that the course marshal stands on the bike path directing
runners in the Long Course to stay to the left and continue straight ahead. The Short Course
participants to slide right and run around a cone placed on the edge of the path. This will
automatically place then on the left hand side off the path for the return home. (SEE DIAGRAM)
Steve is standing near the Short Course turn.
The 2km point (4km return) for the Long Course is on the gravel section. At this point, some 8m past
a large tree on the right and 15m before a track junction and a culvert leading to the Lake, there is a
park bench on the left.
For the next 100m or so (to the Life Save Buoy sign on the right) there are a number of tracks going
to the left which could cause confusion so need cones.
At the 2.23k mark a small track leads to the left which may need cones.
At the 2.8k mark there is an important junction in that the course follows the gravel path not the
bitumen bike path which eventually joins the main bike path around the Lake (SEE DIAGRAM).
The 3km point and Long Course turn is on the gravel path leading to the car park. It is located where
a huge tree on the right and a fig tree (?) on the left form a shaded arch. On the left of the path is a
surface tree root (the only one) at which the cone should be placed for the turn. It could be a little
congested here. SEE PHOTOS below.
