2014 PFLAG LUBBOCK SCHOLARSHIP AWARD
One $500 scholarship will be awarded by the Lubbock Chapter of Parents, Families, and Friends of
Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, and Transgender People (PFLAG Lubbock).
We give this scholarship to recognize outstanding gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and ally (GLBTA)
students from our community. We feel it is important to encourage the continuing education of selfidentified GLBTA students, and we hope to foster a positive image of GLBTA young people in society.
Rules & Requirements:
 Applicant must be 18 years or older as of August 1, 2014.
 Preference is given to those currently living in the greater Lubbock area; however, we do not
restrict applicants based on the location of their post-secondary educational institution.
 This award is not restricted to students of a particular sexual orientation or gender identity;
GLBTQ students and Allies are all welcome to apply.
 Previous winners may reapply, however, cannot win this award in back-to-back years.
 If your full tuition and fees are being paid by grants or other funding, you are not eligible for this
scholarship. The award is paid jointly to the student and the institution, and is valid only for the
fall 2014 semester.
 Award winners will be recognized at the 2014 PFLAG Spring Picnic and are expected to attend.
We judge applications based on the following criteria:
 Participation and leadership in GLBT community activities
 Academic achievement
 Quality of application essays
 Strength of recommendation letters
 Demonstration of integrity/honesty
 Determination and potential to achieve goals
 Demonstration of financial need
The following items must ALL be postmarked to PFLAG Lubbock or emailed to
[email protected] by April 30, 2014 in order to have your application considered (all
information is strictly confidential).

□ Most recent post-secondary transcripts (can be unofficial)
□ Two letters of recommendation, in sealed envelopes with a signature on the flap or
emailed directly from the recommender to [email protected]
□ A signed copy of the scholarship recipient agreement
□ A résumé or CV

SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT AGREEMENT
By signing below, you certify that you understand all of the following:
If I am granted the 2014 PFLAG-Lubbock scholarship, I understand that PFLAG Lubbock may
occasionally wish to use my name and/or photograph in a PFLAG publication or in items
submitted for publication elsewhere. I understand that PFLAG Lubbock will always ask for my
permission prior to publishing my name and/or photo, and that I may deny or grant such
permission without jeopardizing my eligibility to receive the scholarship.
Furthermore, if I am granted the 2014 PFLAG Lubbock scholarship, I understand that I may be
asked to volunteer at a future PFLAG Lubbock fundraising activity or at a future PFLAG
Lubbock service project. I also understand that I may also be asked to participate in future
meetings of PFLAG Lubbock or that I may be asked to attend a meeting of PFLAG Lubbock to
formally receive my scholarship award. I understand that, in order to give back to the
community that is providing my financial assistance, I will try to serve PFLAG Lubbock when
asked.
