How to Enter
1. On or before June 23th, the entry fee is $50
per car and will include 1 pit pass for the driver
and a gate pass for your service/support
vehicle. Entry fee on June 24th is $75. Entry
is open to all men and women with a valid
driver’s license. A copy of a valid drivers’
license and a signed release form is required
for all drivers and pit crew members.

licenses, and required fees at the fairgrounds

Entrance to Pit Area Restricted
1. Entrance to the pit requires the purchase of a pit pass at the ticket booth and a signed release of
liability form, also at the ticket booth.
2.
NO UNSUPERVISED CHILDREN IN THE PIT.
INDIVIDUALS RESPONSIBLE FOR
UNSUPERVISED CHILDREN WILL BE DISQUALIFIED, NO MONEY RETURNED AND
ESCOURTED OUT OF THE PITS.
3. ONLY THE RACE CAR OR ITS TOW/SUPPORT VEHICLE ARE ALLOWED PER ENTRY. Each
entry will be provided with a vehicle gate pass that must be displayed on your vehicle at all times in
the pit.
4. Only the driver listed on the drivers form is allowed to enter the pit gate without paying $20. Any
number of additional crew members will be allowed, they must purchase pit passes at the ticket booth
and park in the public parking.
Event Rules
1. Derby cars must enter by the north gate. Vehicles will be inspected upon arrival at pit gate by a
designated agent of the fair board. His decision is not appealable, and will not be overturned by any
other derby official. If you are not in compliance, you will not race. Another inspection may be done at
any time. Modifications made after inspection will cause disqualification. Final inspection is
mandatory for prize money to be awarded.
2. NO alcohol allowed in the pit. Coolers will be checked.
3. A mandatory drivers meeting will be held, prior to derby start, under the announcer’s booth.
4. Un-sportsman like conduct, taunting or ill behavior by drivers will not be tolerated. In the event
that this occurs you will not be allowed to participate in this year’s derby, asked to leave the premises,
no money will be refunded. Drivers may also be banned from future derbies at the Albany County
Fair.
5. Seat belts and helmets are REQUIRED.
6. NO deliberate hitting in the driver’s door will be allowed. Officials are aware that these types of
collisions occur but the key word is deliberate.
7. If your vehicle is unable to continue: Stay in your vehicle with your helmet strapped on and seat
belts securely fastened until told to do otherwise by officials. A fire will halt the race.
8. You must break your stick if you are unable to continue. This lets the other drivers know that you
are out and lets the officials know that you are OK.
9. While racing, you must make contact with another vehicle, causing damage within 90 seconds or
you will be disqualified.
10. No playing possum or team driving will be allowed. Drivers may maneuver forward or backward
during events.
11. At the end of each heat, winners will be presented their awards.
12. All vehicles are to be removed from the grounds within 12 hours of the end of the event, vehicles
left after that time become the property of the fair board and will be disposed of.
13. All decisions made by the derby director will be final.
14. Compact car, Powder Puff and Truck class must have a minimum of five entries to have the race.
General Rules
1. Registration and release forms must be completed prior to inspection. Entry must be paid prior to
inspection.
2. If car fails inspection you may be allowed to make corrections. If you can not complete corrections
or decline to make corrections you car will be disqualified.
3. Entry fees are non-refundable and must be paid before inspection.
4. Car numbers are on a first come basis. Any driver can preregister/reserve a car number for an
additional $15.
5. The number of heats will depend on the number of entries.
6. All drivers must be 16 years old. ID required.
7. All 16 and 17 year olds planning to drive in any Albany County Fair events must have a release
form signed by a parent or guardian and notarized prior to being eligible to race.
8. One support vehicle per registered car.
9. No alcohol allowed in pits.
10. Drivers meeting is mandatory.
11. Compact cars will race under limited weld car rules.
12. Compact cars may be American or foreign.
Driver Rules
1. No Alcohol in pits at any time.
2. ABSOLUTELY NO HOT RODDING, CARELESS OR RECKLESS DRIVING WILL NOT BE
TOLERATED! YOU WILL BE DISQUALIFIED FROM THE EVENT.
3. A DRIVERS SAFETY BELT AND SAFETY HELMET MUST BE WORN. LONG SLEEVE SHIRTS
AND LONG PANTS MUST BE WORN. FIRE SUITS AND NECK BRACES ARE HIGHLY
RECOMMENDED.
4. No passengers allowed.
Full Weld Rules
1. Vehicles Allowed:
Any stock American made auto or station wagon.
ambulances or limousines are allowed.
2. Remove Parts:
No jeeps, trucks, convertibles, hearses,
All glass, fiberglass, light brackets, all body trim and clips must be removed. Remove head liner, door
panels, rear seat, carpeting and all unnecessary electrical wires. If it is not metal it must be removed.
No self tapping screws.
3. Fuel Tanks:
Factory fuel tanks must be removed. A maximum of 6 gallon metal fuel cell shall be installed inside of
the car forward of the rear axle. Container must be securely fastened down to the floor either by
welding or bolting. Plastic containers must be encased in a metal box. Minimum 1/8 inch steel.
Electrical fuel pumps are allowed.
4. Battery:
All batteries, maximum of 3, must be inside passenger’s compartment, boxed and secured down.
Either by welding or by bolting. A white rag must be attached to the ground cable and be visible. Box
must be minimum of 1/8” steel. Box can not reinforce the door.
5. Radiator:
You do not have to use a radiator but if you do it must be in front of engine.
6. Frames: (Frame Definition: Frame is defined as being able to be removed from the body by bolts.)
No welding of body to frame. Home made motor and transmission mounts will be allowed. Repairs
to frame must only be on 2 sides and 2” either side of repair. ¼” max thickness. K Frame Chryslers
may weld K Frame to sub-frame. Call if you don’t know what a K Frame car is. Full size cars only:
You can reweld frame seams. Body bolts and bushings may be removed and bolts up to 1” may be
used to bolt body directly to frame with 4” x ¼” washers.
7. Transmissions:
Transmission oil coolers are allowed. Tranny cooler liners must be steel or purpose correct metal.
NO FUEL HOSE.
8. Drivers Protection:
All cars must have safety bar behind the seat going from door post to door post, or from right hand
side door post angled down to the driver’s side. Cars must have this bar installed in order to race.
Bar must be a minimum of three inches in diameter and a maximum of eight inches in diameter.
Dash bar may go across post to post or from left hand post extending twelve inches past the hump,
angled down to the passenger’s side. Either a “halo” bar or rollover bar is allowed and may be
vertically attached to the frame. Any moving drive train parts must be covered from a driver. No
angled “kickers” allowed of any kind. Bar behind driver’s seat must be within six inches from the back
of seat. Gas tank protector must only be welded to seat bar and cannot be connected to sheet metal
in any way.
9. Bumpers:
Factory car bumpers only, larger bumpers may be cut down to fit smaller car. Bumpers may be
welded to the mounts and the mounts may be welded to the frame. Two straps 2” x 3/8” thick may be
welded from the hood and trunk to the bumpers. Front straps must e placed to the outside of the
radiator, not in front to protect the radiator. When welding these straps to either side, only a total of
six inches may be welded to hold it on to the bumpers or hood/trunk on either end. 5 mph bumper
brackets or fixed brackets may be used but only one style. Can not combine.
10. Doors/Trunk Lids:
All doors and trunk lids must be fastened either by welding or 3/8” chain. When welding you may use
up to 2” x 1/8” flat bar. #9 wire may be used in window openings, two per window, two wraps each.
May not go to the frame.
11. Wagons:
Wagons must weld 5” skip 5” or chain their compartments that open and cut a hole so they may be
checked.
12. Drivers Door:
Driver’s door must be reinforced with either a minimum of ¼” plate or a horizontal bar not to exceed
10” past front and rear of door.
13. Hoods:
Hoods may be welded, chained or bolted down. Maximum size chain 3/8”. Bolts 1” with 4” washers
and nuts. Six locations, three each side of hood, no bolts placed in front area of hood to protect
radiator. Pick any two methods. No pulling hood forward and bending down to cover radiator.
14. Trunks:
Welded- Maximum size filler rod 3/8”. Maximum size strap 1/8” thick x 2” wide.
Bolted – Four locations. Maximum size rod 1”. Washer size 4” x 4” x ¼”.
Chained – Four locations. In addition two straps 2” wide by 3/8” thick. It may be welded from the
trunk to the bumper. Weld not to exceed six inches on bumper and trunk. Any two methods will be
allowed in limited weld class.
15. Engine Fire:
Hood must have a 24” x 24” hole cut over the carburetor in case of an engine fire. Must stay in
general area of stock engine.
16. Driver Safety/Flying Objects:
Driver’s door and driver’s side of windshield may have vertical bars welded in to protect driver from
flying objects. Two bars from roof down to rear valance panel are allowed in the rear window area 6”
welding total either end. If no valance panel then must stay at top 6” of trunk lid.
17. Engines:
Drivers may use any model engine and drive train in any car.
18. Welds:
Welding in the interior of the car shall consist of the following only: Motor mounts, transmission
mounts, radiator support, battery box, gas tank box and cage. The interior of the car shall be defined
as the passenger, engine and the trunk compartments. Note: Remember the body can not be welded
to the frame. All outside seams may be welded.
19. Tires:
Maximum of 15” tires. Not studded tires allowed. No split rims allowed. Valve stem protectors
allowed.
20: Rear Ends:
Rear differentials must be 5 lug only. Any and all are allowed. Rear control arms on coiled cars may
be reinforced. Leaf springs conversions are allowed but must be done cleanly with no major
reinforcement of frame. 3 spring clamps total (factory & fabricated) in front and behind axle. Max
size 2” wide ¼ “ thick, 1 loop of chain or cable/wire may go from frame to rear end on each side. Leaf
springs must be no more than 2.5” wide and must be staggered at least 1” between leafs.
21. Fender Wells:
Fender Wells may be cut and rolled for wheel clearance. Fenders can be welded or bolted after cut
and rolled.
22. Car Numbers:
A roof top sign shall display your registered car number with letters 12” tall by 2” thick. Drivers and
passengers doors shall display registered numbers 16” tall by 2” wide. Light on dark, dark on light.
23.Reinspection:
Main event cars are subject to reinspection at the conclusion of the event. A protest fee of $250.00
cash to contest another car must be posted with the head judge. If your protest is justifiable your
money will be refunded to you, and the car/driver will be disqualified and therefore forfeit any moneys
or winnings he/she has won. If it is not justifiable the money will be awarded to the car/driver being
protested. Remember in the end judges decision is final. Just because it is not written doesn’t mean
it is allowed. Call for any clarifications.
24. Compact Cars:
Compact cars will race under limited weld rules with the following additions: Only 4 and 6 cylinder
engines are allowed, wheel base is not to exceed 105”, four wheel drive vehicles will be allowed as
long as one drive line is disconnected making it a two wheel drive.
25. Halo bars required.
Stock Car Rules
1973 or newer cars. No Imperials, Lebaron’s, Ambulances, Hearses, Sedagons or limousines
allowed.
1- CAGES & DOOR BARS: SEE Diagram last page
1. A Single bar 4pt cage system only may be used. No double bars with the exception of the driver’s
door.
2. You may use channel or tubing/pipe up to 6" O.D. for Dash & Rear Seat bars. Side bars can be up
to 10” tall x 6” wide channel or tubing. All bars must be straight.
3. Seat bar must be no further than 8" behind the seat.
4. Side door bars may not go past the front dash bar.
5. Interior door bars may not be more than 14” behind the seat.
6. Dash bar must be a minimum of 6” away from the center of the firewall.
7. End plates are mandatory with a max of 10”x10”, up to 3/8” thick.
8. You are allowed a gas tank and tranny cooler protector; these may not be attached to anything
other than the back seat bar. On the gas tank/tranny protection side bars, they must be 6” away from
any side and inner fender well sheet metal. Rear bar cannot extend beyond the side bars or be closer
than 4” from the back seat sheet metal. All interior sheet metal must remain in stock position, unless
removed completely.
9. You may add 2 VERTICAL down bars on the rear seat bar only, welded to your door bar and to the
floor sheet metal. These bars may not attach to or conceal a body mount.
10. No kickers, angled or otherwise. NO cage components may be welded to the frame.
11. All cage components must be a minimum of 6" off of any floor pan sheet metal or body mount
elevation, and 4” off of tranny tunnel sheet metal.
12. All cage components must be in the interior of the car, not inside the door structure with the
exception of the driver’s side. The driver’s door bar MAY be inside the door structure or on the
outside of the driver’s door only to allow more room for driver’s safety.
13. Drivers door, you may weld a plate Maximum 10" wide across the door for protection, not to
exceed 6" beyond the exterior drivers door seams. These plates must be in the center of the door and
run horizontally.
2 - HALO OR ROLLOVER BARS:
1. You MUST add a halo bar or an upright post to the cage components listed above. It may not
exceed 4" O.D. The cross bar must bolt to the roof in two locations.
2. Halo bars must be in a direct vertical line with the seat bar. They must be vertical.
3. Upright post must have a plate (max 10” x 10”) attached to the roof, welded or bolted in.
4. Upright post must be mounted vertically and in such away it will not bend. (Ex. Gusseted)
.
3 - DOORS:
1. Door seams must be welded using rolled rod no bigger than ½” or flat strap no bigger than 2” wide
by 1/4” thick.
2. You may smash the inner and outer skin together of the window opening and weld them solid, you
may use the same filler as in welding the door seems but no longer than the window openings.
3. Drivers door and drivers side of front windshield may have window fabric netting or chicken wire
type material for driver’s safety. NO other windows may have netting.
4 - BUMPERS:
The intention of this rule is to allow you to mount the bumpers in such a way that they are less
likely to fall off. Upon inspection if it is determined that you have exceeded the intention of the rule
you will be given the opportunity to correct it in order to compete, if you are not willing to correct it you
will be disqualified. Officials have the final say.
1. No loaded bumpers may be used.
2. Bumper swaps are allowed
3. Stock O.E.M. bumpers off of passenger cars may be used.
4. A Maximum 5” by 5” by Maximum 3/16" SQUARE tube may be used, but must be open ended
and straight. They can not extend more than 10” from the outside of the frame. No skinning or
additional metal may be added to the tube except small plates to mount if needed.
5. Bumpers may be flipped.
6. Bumpers may be cut so they do not smash into the tires during the event.
7. No chrome may be welded to the body if using compression bumpers.
8. Chrome of bumpers may be welded to the inner beam of the compression bumper only. No
additional material may be added.
9. Non compression bumpers may be welded to no more than 12 inches on the outside body only.
Note: Hood must be able to open.
10. Chain may be wrapped around the bumper to the frame (one wrap per side, see hood bolting
rule).
If you ARE NOT swapping bumpers:
1. Stock bumper brackets and tubes in stock locations may be welded to the front 4" of the frame
only. No swapping bumper brackets and or tubes/beams.
2. On cars equipped with factory compression style bumpers you may compress the bumper shock
tubes and weld them back.
3. Bumpers may be welded to shock tubes mounting plate or you must remove all original mounting
hardware and use one 4" long x 4" tall x 1/4" thick piece of angle iron per frame rail only (see bumper
swapping rule #1 below)
If you ARE swapping bumpers:
1. If swapping the bumper's on factory equipped compression bumper car you must use either the
stock mounting brackets and tubes in stock locations or you must remove all original mounting
hardware and use one 4" long x 4" tall x 1/4" thick piece of angle iron per frame rail welded to the
outside front 4" of the frame only. No swapping brackets and or tube/beams.
2. If adding a compression bumper to a non compression bumper car the only way it may be attached
is by removing all original mounting hardware and using one 4"long x 4" tall x 1/4" thick piece of angle
iron per frame rail welded to the outside front 4" of the frame only.
5 - FRAMES:
1. All body mounts (rubber biscuit and cone) and "pucks" must be in place. You may not remove
bolts and place washers on both sides.
2. No Buffing, grinding or packing of frames.
3. No Chrysler sub-frame chaining.
4. No Imperial sub-frame swaps allowed.
5. Frames may be notched.
6. Absolutely no cutting, bending or altering the front frame in any way.
6- HOOD AND TRUNK:
1. Hinge spring must be removed.
2. Trunk lid and hood must be 100% in stock location and open for inspection or have a 30" x 30"
hole for inspection.
3. All decking in wagons must be removed.
4. Body may be pinched. Trunk may be tucked or v'd by no welding. Your trunk lid if v'd in the center
must be at least 12 inches off trunk floor body mount elevation.
5. A combination of the following four ways to secure the hood and trunk.
a- Chains or cables may be used to secure the hood and the trunk.
1- Chain and cable may be no larger than 3/8". If excessive chain or cable is found, it
will be cut. If using chain or cable it must be single looped. It may go around the
bumper. It may be located anywhere on the hood or trunk.
b- If welding the hood you may use 6" lengths of maximum 1/2" rod welded in the seam.
c- Two 6 inch lenghts of 2" x 2" angle iron may be welded to the body only back to back and
bolted together with a 1/2" bolt. These can not be welded across the seam.
d- If bolting, the hood and trunk bolts may be no larger than 8" x 3/4" with two 5" washers per
bolt.
6. You may mix and match the types of hood/trunk fastening, but only 2 fastening points per side of
the hood/trunk may be used.
7 - ENGINES and REAR ENDS:
1. Engines may be swapped but must remain as close to original position as possible. No cutting of
the fire wall to accommodate different motors. A hole may be cut for the distributor. Motor mounts
may be fastened with only one strap or chain per side to the top of the factory engine cradle. No
welding to the frame.
2. If using an engine saddle or lower cradle it may only be fastened to the frame engine cradle and
not the frame and you may not use any strap or chain
3. NON trussed factory rear ends must be used. Ford in Ford, GM in GM, etc. No hybrids.
4. No transmission coolers allowed.
5. Rear end gears/axles may be changed, welded or posi'd.
6. No distributor/ pulley protectors slip shaft drivelines, after market steering columns or protectors of
any kind may be used. No aftermarket parts of this nature at all.
7. Factory steering column must be used: rag joints may be modified/replaced.
8. Floor shifters allowed.
9. No aftermarket brakes or gas pedals.
8. SUSPENSION:
1. Suspension must be stock components and working.
2. Coil springs may be welded to the axle only.
3. No other means other than tires and spring spacers may be used to raise the cars suspension.
4. No adding or modifying original leaf spring clamps. No chaining of humps.
9. WINDOWS:
1. You must have at least one but no more than two front window bars or 3/*" chain. Rear window
bars are optional, but no more than two.
2. Bars may not be bigger than 36" long by 2" x 2".
3. Bars may only be attached by welding directly to the sheet metal or with a mounting plate no bigger
than 4" x 4" by 3/16" angle or plate on the roof, cowl, speaker deck or trunk. Plate can not be
mounted on the trunk lid itself.
4. Bars must be spaced at least 18 inches apart on the bottom, and no cross connections. No other
added metal or mount plates.
5. If using rear window bars in a station waggon tailgate windows are treated as a rear window, but
must be mounted at the top of the tailgate, and the tailgate must be in original closed position.
6. No wiring or chaining of any window openings.
7. Window bars may not be attached to the halo bar or any cage components.
10 - RADIATORS, RADIATOR SUPPORTS:
1. Only OEM style passenger car radiators may be used. Aluminum racing radiators of the same style
may be used.
2. Radiator must be attached to the core support.
3. Radiators may be mounted in such away to hold the radiator in place, not strengthening the core
support. No added metal may be used to mount the radiator. If welding radiator in place you may use
four 1” welds, one per corner.
4. You may not add cooling capacity. No supplemental cooling devices allowed (electric fans are
allowed).
5. If the arena allows, engine coolants may be used, water only!.
6. Radiator loops may be used.
7. Radiator supports must remain in the stock location.
8. Radiator core support seam welding is NOT allowed.
9. Radiator supports may not be welded to the frame, bumper brackets, bumpers or anything else.
10. If using a condenser to protect your radiator, it may be tie wired to the core support only.
11. FUEL DELIVERY SYSTEMS:
1. Metal marine type tank, metal fuel tank or derby type metal fuel tank is required.
2. 6 gallon max tank maximun may be used.
3. Original gas tanks must be removed from the car.
4. You must have the gas tank securely mounted behind the driver's seat with bolts, metal straps or
chain. No seat belts or pull tie straps may be used.
5. Fuel lines must run inside the car, not under the car along the frame. Fuel line must be inside a
protective line within the engine compartment.
****IF USING AN ELECTRICAL FUEL PUMP, YOU MUST BRING IT TO INSPECTORS
ATTENTION AT TECH****
1. Electric fuel pumps are allowed. The on/off switch must be easily accessible and clearly marked
with bright paint. An "E" will be attached rear pillar during tech to identify the electric fuel pump.
2. Automotive pump gas only, NO ALCOHOL TYPE FUEL MAY BE USED!!
12. BATTERIES:
1. Only one battery of any type may be used.
2. The battery must be secured inside the car and covered, unless you are using a gel cell battery.
3. Battery box must be made out of metal! It must be bolted to the floor; bolts may not go thru or
around the frame. Seat belts or pull type tie downs may not be used.
4. Rusted out holes in your floor sheet metal must be patched (with sheet metal only) where
components are mounted for driver’s safety. You may not patch clean and solid floors.
5. All body mounts must be visible.
13 - TIRES & BRAKES:
1. No split rims, studded tires or Duals
2. Stock rims only, no bead locks or reingorcing of the rim si allowed.
3. Valve stem protectors allowed. Wheel weights must be removed.
4. All cars must be able to demonstrate the ability to stop at any time. If your brakes do not work, you
will not compete.
5. You may not change tires after inspection without officials consent.
14. AIR CLEANERS:
1. You must have an air cleaner over the carburetor at all times during the event.
2. There must be an opening cut in the hood on each side of the air cleaner for fire supression.
Minimum of 6 inches diameter.
15. CUT OUTS:
1. Cut outs over the wheel wells are legal.
2. No welding or bolting of the cutouts is allowed.
3. If inspection holes and fire holes are determined to be too small you will be asked to cut them
larger.
4. Anything can be removed: NOTHING can be added.
OVERALL SAFETY IS OUR GOAL AND WILL BE DETERMINED BY THE TRACK OFFICIALS!

Car and Powder Puff division are $1000.00 each. I agree to release and hold harmless, Albany County, Albany
County commissioners, and the Albany County Fair, its Board Members, employees and designated
representatives for any and all losses and/or injury that I may suffer.
