Rationale: A good exercise for teaching players to switch the point of attack, when one side of the field has been well defended. Set up: Grid: Grid is approx. 70x50 If using for periodization then you need 70x40 for 8v8 / 80x50 for 9v9 / 90x60 for 10v10 Grid is setup with 4 corner goals with each team defending two goals. Normal game with conditions that you can decide. Open touch, 3 touch, or 2 touch. Again, I am not a fan of playing 1 touch on fields this size. Restarts come from a server standing on the side line at center. Periodization: Duration 10-‐15 minutes, 2-‐6 reps, 1 set. Effort at 50-‐60% Rest between reps: 2 minutes Coaching Points: 1. Can we recognize the moments to switch the point of attack and when we do so, can this be one long ball over the top, or is it safer to play through the middle first. This will also take patience as we do not want the team in possession to try to force something that isn’t there. 2. Timing of runs out wide and the cooperation between the outside mid and fullback. Ideally we want to try to pull the opposing fullback inside with a strong inside run from our outside mid. This run should then free the fullback to advance down that undefended. 3. Can we start out attack by first playing through the middle (center) of the pitch as this will open up either side. Less predictable when we first play inside to go outside as opposed to going outside straight away.
