2017-18 District Membership and Leadership Development
Goals and Action Plans Timeline and Process
HIGH-LEVEL TIMELINE
Between November 2016 and April 30, 2017, 1st Vice District Governors/District Governors-elect (1st
VDGs/DGEs) will:

Establish district goals and action plans
o The 1st VDG/DGE will establish district membership and leadership development
goals and action plans by completing the DGE Independent Assignments, attending
the DGE MD Training & GMT/GLT Area Training and collaborating with the current
DG team (including the respective GMT/GLT MD coordinator, where applicable, and
GMT/GLT area leader or special area advisor).
Submit final goals and action plans to LCI
o Once goals and action plans are final, 1st VDGs/DGEs will submit the district’s goals
and action plans to LCI using the 2017-2018 District Goals web page. (Available after
January 15, 2017.)
Request confirmations
o The 1st VDG/DGE will request electronic confirmations from the second vice district
governor, respective GMT/GLT MD coordinator, where applicable, and GMT/GLT
area leader or special area advisor using the 2017-2018 District Goals web page.
District membership and leadership development goals, action plans and confirmations are due April 30,
2017.
PROCESS TO ESTABLISH DISTRICT MEMBERSHIP AND LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT GOALS AND ACTION
PLANS
1. Complete Independent Assignments and Assessments by December 30, 2016
o Assignment 1: Selecting Your Team
o Assignment 2: Goal Setting
o Assignment 3: Resources and Considerations for Goal Setting
In order to receive your DGE seminar meal per diem, the independent guided learning
assignments and corresponding assessments must be completed by December 30,2016.
NOTE: Final submission of the district’s goals and action plans are due by April 30, 2017 and will
not impact receiving the DGE seminar meal per diem.
2. Draft district membership and leadership development goals using the S.M.A.R.T. Goal
and Action Plan Template
o As you complete the Independent Assignments, begin to draft your district’s goals.
o Collaborate with your DG team (including the respective GMT/GLT MD coordinator,
where applicable, and GMT/GLT area leader or special area advisor) to refine your
goals and draft your action plans.
NOTE: District goals and action plans will not be final until 1st VDGs/DGEs have attended the
GMT/GLT Area Training. Additional information will be provided at the area training that may
impact the district’s goals. Therefore, it is recommended that 1st VDGs/DGEs bring draft
versions of the district’s goals and action plans to the training.
3. Attend Multiple District Training
o Bring copies of your draft goals and action plans to the training.
o Record insights that might impact the district’s membership and leadership
development goals.
o Update the S.M.A.R.T. Goal and Action Plan Template(s) with new information and
adjust as needed.
o After the program ends, share the updated goals and action plans with your team.
Ask for their input and/or agreement with the updated goals and action plans.
NOTE: Goals and action plans must be submitted to LCI by April 30, 2017. If you belong to a
MD or single district that is not holding training between November 2016 and April 2017,
you are not required to attend MD training prior to finalizing and submitting your district’s
goals and action plans.
4. Attend GMT/GLT Area Training for DGEs
o Bring copies of your district’s draft goals and action plans to the training.
o During this training, you will have an opportunity to refine the district’s goals with
input from your 1st VDG/DGE peers and the GMT and GLT area leaders.
o Update the S.M.A.R.T. Goal and Action Plan Template(s) with new information and
adjust as needed.
o After the program ends, share the updated goals and action plans with your team.
Ask for their input and/or agreement with the updated goals and action plans.
5. Finalize your district’s membership and leadership development goals and action plans
o Collaborate with your DG team (including the respective GMT/GLT MD coordinator,
where applicable, and GMT/GLT area leader or special area advisor) to finalize your
district’s goals.
o Ensuring their agreement and support prior to submitting final versions to LCI will
make the confirmation process easier.
6. Submit your district’s final goals and action plans to LCI
o Using your S.M.A.R.T. Goal and Action Plan Template(s) as a guide, submit the
district’s leadership development and membership development goals and action
plans using the 2017-2018 District Goals web page.
o Additional information on this process will be presented during the GMT/GLT area
training.
7. Request confirmations
o After submitting the district’s goals and action plans online, contact the current
GMT/GLT area leader or special area advisor, GMT/GLT multiple district coordinator
(where applicable), GMT/GLT district coordinators and second vice district governor
and inform them that the district’s goals and action plans are online.

Request that they access the 2017-2018 District Goals webpage and follow the
directions to indicate their confirmation with the district’s submitted goals and
action plans.
Monitor the status of the confirmation process using the 2017-2018 District Goals
web page and follow up as needed.
Confirmations are due April 30, 2017.
Goal submission and confirmation tutorials and FAQs will be available on the 2017-2018 District Goals
