Welcome to Primary 3 Have a peek below to see what we will be learning in term three. LITERACY NUMERACY We are continuing to learn our letters and sounds in our Literacy teams, where we use a range of resources including Bug Club and Phonics Play. We are going to have a big focus on writing instructions, writing a recounts, understanding their purpose and using sequencing language. We will be using our VCOP skills in our writing, and remembering their importance. We will continue to develop our phonics skills, recapping on previous learning and finding out about new sounds. The children will complete work in class focusing on reading comprehension and then at home the book should be read for enjoyment. In Numeracy this term Primary 3 will continue to develop their mental agility skills everyday in class. We will also be revising our times tables facts and learning new ones. We are currently learning all about multiplication: recognising patterns, displaying large and small equal groups, and calculating 2 and 3 digit numbers multiplied by 1 digit number. We will also be learning all about information handling; collating and displaying information in various ways. We are looking forward to learning all about 2D & 3D shape too. HEALTH AND WELLBEING We will be developing our classroom community throughout term three. With Mrs Clark we will be learning about and participating in large and small ball games. Using our co-ordination and tactics skills. Recognising the different skills needed for different games. In class we are learning all about the human body, applying particular attention to the major organs of the body and their purpose. R.M.E This term we will learn about the Christian celebration of Easter. I.C.T Primary 3 will be using I.C.T. to research our personal interests. We will use games and word documents to practice our mouse and keyboard skills. SOCIAL STUDIES EXPRESSIVE ARTS SCIENCE We will be looking at our lovely town, Kilwinning and the landmarks within it, which make it famous. We are so excited about learning our Burns poem Mrs Nae Offence. It is so funny! We will transform the Learning Zone into a Pirates paradise; showcasing everything we will be learning about our big topic…Pirates! Shiver me timbers! We are looking forward to spending time with Mrs Greir developing our art skills, creating our very own art gallery, which will be displayed at parent’s night. We will be focusing on the work of Paul Klee. Our wonderful artwork will be displayed in the hall on parent’s night for parents, carers and friends to purchase. In science we are going to be learning to explore properties and sources of materials. We will be organising them into different groups and investigating materials that will dissolve. HOW CAN YOU HELP AT HOME? On the class website there are lots of links to games for children to play to develop their math and literacy skills. Try to encourage your child to read their books and have fun! We will have a big push this term to learn all of our times tables facts so please practice this at home if you have a free minute. If you would like any more information please feel free to ask. We are always on the lookout for volunteers to help with different learning stations and games. If you are interested then please let a member of staff know.
