ORANGE DISTRICT BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION INCORPORATED Sir Neville Howse SPORTS CENTRE ORANGE 6360 1838 ABN: 51 847 626 121 Press Release Basketball Bounces into Summer As the temperatures warm up, so does the international, national and local basketball action. Orange Basketball Association, (OBA) is currently calling for team nominations for its Summer Competition which will commence in mid October 2010 and run through until April 2011. Basketball is a great game and the competition can cater for everyone’s needs. OBA has both senior and junior competitions. The Senior Men and Women Competition is held on Monday night and has a number of divisions which enables those who are competitive to play against other like minded people while there are grades which cater for the developing and social player as well. The junior competition is held on Tuesday afternoons and is usually strongest over summer. The competition includes miniball program which is designed for mainly Primary school students and consists of drills and games for those learning to play basketball. The junior competition also runs divisions for experienced and older school aged players which focus on fast, fun and competitive games. “Basketball is often associated with summer.” said Pat Abraham OBA President “Currently the Opals, (the Australian Women Basketball Team) are competing in the Women’s Basketball World Championship in Czech Republic and they are defending their World Championship title” “The National Basketball League tips off on 15 October and Orange residents will have the opportunity to watch a number of these games on free to air television” said Mr Abraham “On a local level, our Summer Competition attracts a good number of teams in our senior and junior divisions. We are focussing on people enjoying and enhancing their skills whilst playing this great game.” Mr Abraham said that OBA is currently taking nominations for our summer competition and a number of the teams that played in the winter competition have already signed up for the Summer Comp. He encourages others to get a group of friends together and put in a team. “We know that there may be people who would like to play basketball but may need assistance in finding a team to play in. OBA will be playing an active role in helping link new players to a team” Those wishing to enter a team or wishing to find a team to play in should contact OBA by either calling Chris Mavrak on 6360 1838 or 0406 257 909 or emailing [email protected] by Tuesday 5 October END Pat Abraham 0438 474 758
