Major accomplishments:
1990-2000:
Founding member of several networks for applied linguistic research with a focus on
translation and interpreting and terminology research: The European Association for
Terminology (EAFT), NL-TERM, the Dutch-Flemish terminology association, and
UNITI, university network for interpreting and translation institutes.
Since1990:
Active member of the TC/37 Terminology committee for the Netherlands and
Flanders,
Active member of the committee of ISO TC/37 on terminology and other resources.
Under my responsability, our department got international recognition through the
CIUTI-label (conférence internationale de traducteurs et interprètes) (www.ciuti.org)

Microsoftaward (1999) for the project SCAPE: student – centered approach on
education
2000- 2013:
Reorganising our department of applied language studies to become an integral part
of the faculty of Arts of KU Leuven. This reorganization included major cuts in the
budget; The reorganization was finalized in a successful way.
Introduction of 2 new language sections in the department : Arabic language and
Sign Language (both of them are unique in Flanders).
Reorganisation of the curriculum in to a bachelor of applied language studies and 4
masters : translation, interpreting, multilingual communication and journalism.
These 5 curricula were fully accredited by the national authorities (NVAO).
Creation of a Postgraduate Programme on Specialised Translation with a focus on
translation technology and localisation.
Creation of a Postgraduate Programme on Literary Translation in cooperation with
University of Utrecht and the Nederlandse Taalunie.
Receiving the international quality label “European Master In Translation” (EMT) for
the master in translation.
