Packaging Talent Award
At Philips Garment Care, we seek to improve consumer lives with meaningful and
innovative products.
Packaging is the face of our products. Without being convinced by a good face,
consumers would never get to experience our products. However, it can be more than
that. How can we make our packaging do more for our consumers?
Would you like to maximize Philips Garment Care packaging usefulness and appeal?
We believe that Second Life Packaging can significantly improve consumer lives. Not
only by providing more value to our products but also by making their supply chain
more sustainable. We present you with two opportunities to show your talent while
helping us to make better products:

our best selling range
• Please refer to http://www.philips.co.uk/c-p/GC8638_20/perfectcare-aqua-pressurised-steamgenerator-with-optimaltemp
– this represents one PC Aqua out of the whole range, all models are similar but with higher /
lower specifications in terms of bar pressure etc and in different colors
• PerfectCare Aqua is our best selling steam generator
• PerfectCare Aqua has this unique feature: large water tank. It means you can iron for hours
without refilling the water tank. It helps make ironing sessions easier and faster. The excellent
design of the fully visible water tank means you can see the water level when you look from
any angle.
• 100% easy to use, no adjustment required. You can now iron all ironable garments one after
the other, without having to wait or to adjust the iron's temperature dial.
• 100% safe on all fabrics even the most delicate like silk, cashmere, wool, polyester.
Independent iron testing institutes have used PerfectCare on the most sensitive ironable
garments and they confirmed excellent ironing results.

Background
Currently, Philips offers the EasySpeed Plus irons with heat resistant and
fashionable storage boxes. Consumers praise having a solution for immediate
storage of their irons after use, how can we improve this experience and / or
what further useful benefit can we provide to our consumers via Second Life
Packaging?

The Challenge
You will develop a new Second Life packaging idea for Philips irons.
You can either go for one or both of the following design routes:
1. An improved iron storage box.
2. A box that provides new consumer-relevant benefits beyond iron storage.

Boundary conditions
To make your packaging innovation succeed, you need to think about the garment care consumer
and what would radically improve their iron storage experience. However, packaging is also the
product’s face and an important part of the supply chain, therefore you also need to consider and
justify:
• The higher the benefit/cost ratio, the better
• It should allow space for packaging a Philips Iron inside
• It must display product communication information in an appealing manner
• It must be robust enough to endure supply chain: from production, warehousing thru point of
sale.
• Optional: if you design it to be used immediately after iron use, you have to make it heat
resistant

design.
