Planned expenditure Academic year 2016/17 The three headings below enable schools to demonstrate how they are using the pupil premium to improve classroom pedagogy, provide targeted support and support whole school strategies. i. Quality of teaching for all Desired outcome B. Improved oral language skills in Reception Chosen action / approach What is the evidence and rationale How will you ensure it is for this choice? implemented well? Staff lead When will you review implement ation? We have invested time and resources in training staff for the KTC programme. Our school is a training school for phonics and reading for the city. KTC is suitable as an approach that we can embed across the school. Use INSET days to deliver training. Peer observation of lesson quality and consistency of approach. Monitored by Lead teachers & SLT. Data is monitored of all children by teacher (ongoing) and SLT (every 6 weeks) Lead KTC teachers Half termly Knowledge Transfer Centre based on Letters & Sounds (Phonics/rhyming & oral skills taught daily) HT Deputy Head Teachers Tracking progress of H/A PP children every 6 weeks. Improved writing skills Writing Project with LA We have developed Novel study approach and need to adapt for children with less attainment Train teachers for implementation of LA project. Use original texts. Adapt classroom technique & involve peer mentoring in Years 3/4/5. EN/AR KS2 Half termly B Improved Mathematics skills Mathematics calculations & language of maths focus by new Mathematics leader. Support by Consultant. We recognise that the language of Mathematics is challenging for our children. Gaps in learning are compounded by attendance issues, high mobility in KS2. Monitoring of Teaching & Learning. Small group support for PP children from HLTAs to close the gaps. SP Half termly B. Improved Reading progress for high attaining pupils Book clubs established and reading skills are tracked. H/A PP children are challenged to read & discuss texts in lesson time, through guided reading & Book Club. High ability pupils eligible for PP are making less progress and attainment than other higher attaining pupils in reading. We want to ensure that PP pupils can achieve high attainment as well as simply ‘meeting expected standards’. Use KTC courses to deliver training. SLT observations of guided reading Middle leaders/lead KTC teachers to monitor & observe phonics & guided reading PP interviews for involvement and progress with interventions HT DHTs x2 (Book Club) Half termly May 2016 Lead KTC teachers ii. Targeted support Desired outcome Chosen action/approach What is the evidence and rationale How will you ensure it is for this choice? implemented well? Staff lead When will you review implement ation? C. Improved quality and quantity of homework and frequency of home reading by PP children Each PP child will be in receipt of a homework support kit pencil case provided by the school. Most PP children either do not complete homework or home reading diary. Class teachers End of each term. Meeting for parents of PP children invited to a Reading Workshop. We want to improve reading regularity for PP children & stretch the H/.A PP children to attempt wider reading at home/library & attempt project work at home. Pupils eligible for PP complete homework weekly encouraged by resources to support homework, monitored by the teacher & data monitored by SLT. SLT Parents workshops raise awareness of the importance of reading at home. Visits to the library by Reception children & visits by the Book Bus. D.
