I have now been involved in football for just over 10 years and started like most volunteers when my daughter shocked me with the news that she wanted to play football. I continue to enjoy being involved, long after my daughter leaving, working alongside a great team of people who share my passion, enthusiasm and commitment to make sure your time at this club is an enjoyable one. The clubs aim is to make sure that any player that joins the club has the chance to stay and play as long as they wish and are able. Last season we had teams from U9’s right through to open age ladies competing in five different Leagues. As part of our retention programme these teams will continue to move up an age promoting a new U9 team following successful Primary School summer coaching events. Development is our prime function within the club both for players and coaches. I am immensely proud that the Club has won the ‘Best Charter Development Club’ award from the Worcestershire FA for 2013/14 season. A special and sincere thanks to all of you for making this happen. The summer of 2014 sees two more coaches completing level 1, four coaches completing Level 2 and one coach doing a UEFA B course. I would like to support those volunteers with my best wishes for their continued achievements. It is always satisfying to see players emerge as coaches, especially when the younger players take their Junior/level 1 badges and get involved with the younger teams. Improving facilities is part of the long term Club development plan, and at time of going to print we are consulting with Baxter Campus to secure Floodlight Astro training agreements for the whole club. This is a partnership project that will be long term and see us set up our base within the campus and make use of more of their facilities, including Grass pitches, indoor Sports Hall, multi-purpose Gym, Lecture Theatre and classroom facilities for teaching. Obtaining and sustaining sponsorship funding is key to the clubs continued growth and every season this becomes a major challenge as we push to deliver best practice while preserving reasonable and acceptable player fees. The Three Crowns & Sugar Loaf Pub has confirmed that they will continue to be our main sponsor for this season, pumping in another £2,500. This is fantastic for the club and I ask that after your home games you show your appreciation by attending post-match meals prepared by them. We still however need to gain further sponsorship, so I urge you to ask around. Anyone interested should contact a member of the club. Previous seasons have seen many different sponsors donate and I would like to offer our sincere thanks to all of them for their generosity and commitment. Safety and enjoyment is key to retaining player’s year on year. I would request that you take time to read through this booklet and most importantly play your part in the ‘RESPECT’ campaign, whether as a player, coach/volunteer or parent. The good name this club establishes will be down to your involvement, commitment and attitude. I wish you all success and enjoyment for the forthcoming season as it is not a winning mentality we promote but the satisfaction of participating and being part of the footballing community in the Wyre Forest area. Yours in Football PAUL LACEY Club Objectives The Clubs aims and long-term development plan can be viewed on our Club Website. http://www.clubwebsite.co.uk/wyreforestphoenixfc/Documents. It sets out our main objectives and plans for the future and is the foundation blocks for which we build upon. Coaches Please remember that our coaches are all volunteers and we should not abuse their willingness to help our members. At Wyre Forest Phoenix we aim that all coaches are trained to a minimum of FA Level 1. Please be sure that if you are not remaining at the training session or match the coach in charge is made aware of this, and how they can contact you in the case of emergency. They should also be aware of any persons who may be collecting/transporting your child on your behalf if you are unable to. Matches Matches are normally played on a Saturday morning for Youth teams and Sunday afternoon for the Adult teams. Players and parents/carers will be notified of the location of Away matches at training prior to the game being played. Your Team Manager will contact parents/carers by email, text, and or phone to confirm if players are available for the coming match. It would be appreciated if parents/carers keep in regular touch with managers concerning the availability of players for matches, with as much notice as possible for holidays etc. Please be aware it is the responsibility of the parents to ensure safe transportation to and from each game and not rely on the coaches’ goodwill. Team selection will be based on commitment and attitude overall including training, not necessarily on ability (see below), with equality & development in mind. Training As the games are played in all weathers we also encourage to train in all weathers! In cases of extreme weather parents will be notified as soon as possible if training is cancelled. Participation in training will be a factor in determining the match players. We want our players to be committed for themselves and their team-mates and training is an important aspect of this. Obviously there will be occasions when players are unable to attend training, but we would appreciate if contact can be made with team managers and coaches if this is going to be the case. It may be that training plans have to be adapted as a consequence. Photography and Video. Wyre Forest Phoenix will only use Photographs/Video for promotional material, and included on our website, but will never attach the name of any player under the age of 18 with the photographs (as in the declaration on the club registration sheet). The only exception to this will be when specific consent has been given by the parents concerned. Please be reminded that if you wish to take photographs during a game you must speak to your manager first, who will then get it approved by both the opposition manager and the referee. Please remember although you are photographing your own player there will probably be other minors in the peripheral view of the lens. Player Development WORCESTERSHIRE GIRLS PLAYER DEVELOPMENT CENTRE 'Player development opportunity for young female players' 1. OBJECTIVES OF THE CENTRE The aim of the Centre is to offer young players with potential, the best coaching and environment we can offer to assist their personal development in football. This is achieved through coaching the players through a programme where they will be challenged in line with The FA’s 4 Corner Model (technically, physically, psychologically and socially). Whilst the primary aim of the Centre is to develop players, the secondary aim is to develop coaches, by encouraging grassroots football coaches to attend the Player Development Centre and observe the sessions, hopefully developing new ideas that can be taken back into the club environment and reproduced in the appropriate manor for other players to benefit from. The Player Development Centre offer two year age bands ranging from U12 upwards. Confirmed age bands for the 2014/15 season have yet to be confirmed at the time of print. Each age group will run for 2 blocks of 10 weeks, with one training session per week on a Wednesday night at Worcester University 3G Artificial Pitch. 2. ASSESSMENT OF PLAYERS When assessing players the most common question asked is ‘what do you look for?’ When assessing & selecting players Centres will not look for the tallest, the quickest or the strongest players, Centres will look beyond the physical attributes that a player may posses, although it’s fair to say that having height, speed and strength does naturally enable a player to stand out – in this case it will be how they effectively use those attributes to benefit from the game. Player assessment will be based of the following attributes: Technical Ability Decision Making Game Understanding Fundamentals (Agility, Balance, Co-ordination) Attitude (on & off the pitch) 3. PDC & THE PLAYER PATHWAY Where does the PDC fit along the player pathway? the PDC is situated in-between grassroots football and Centre of Excellence to ‘bridge the gap’. The link between the PDC and Centre of Excellences across the region will be reinforced by scouts from the Centres coming to look at players at the PDC and also the Centre Director recommending players for Trial. 4. REALISTIC EXPECTATIONS The PDC is situated in-between grassroots football and Centre of Excellence. With this in mind, we have to maintain realistic expectations as to what players that are invited to the PDC are likely to achieve; as there are no guarantees. Our priority is to develop the player technically and challenge them on the 5 principles of player development with a view to improving their game. If we achieve this and retain them within the game, whilst assisting them to fulfil their potential, turning them from a good grassroots player into a very good grassroots player, then the Centre has achieved its objective. From here it is hoped that players will move onwards and upwards along the player pathway with the majority of players moving into adult grassroots football / semi-professional football. 5. FIXTURES Each Centre will play a maximum of 3 friendly fixtures against other FA Girls’ Player Development Centres per year. Fees The annual membership fees for Mini/Junior/Adult Football are set annually to cover Affiliations, Registrations, Pitch fees, Referee fees, Training Facilities, Training Equipment, Trophies and other Club Administration costs. Fee Type Youth Adult Annual Registration Fee Annual Membership Match day player fines £ 15.00 £140.00 Per FA £ 20.00 £140.00 Per FA (These fines are not included in the above and must be paid within 1 week of receiving them to allow correct administration processing) Out of Season Training per session Where training sessions are done outside of the Playing season then a ‘Pay & Play’ policy will be adopted. This charge will be agreed by the club prior to the session and is regardless of Age as it covers the continued use of the Training facilities Payment The Registration fee is payable on completion of the Registration form. Annual Membership payment is spread over 28 weeks as we feel this is the best affordable process for you. You are more than welcome to pay in advance. This will commence from week starting Monday 1st September 2014 with the last week of Monday 23rd March 2015. The preferred collection method is by Standing Order (form attached). Out of season training fees are for any other week outside of this 28 week period Fees are reviewed annually and members will be notified of changes when membership forms are issued at the start of each season. Club Kit All football kits remain the property of Wyre Forest Phoenix and should be returned to your manager at the end of each season, failure to do so could result in a charge to replace the kit. Club Insurance All members are covered by standard Club insurance while in the care of the club. Adult Players are advised, at their own risk, to take out ‘Sports Injury’ insurance to cover possible loss of earnings for any serious injuries that may occur. Fundraising During the year the club will organise events to help raise additional funds that are valuable to the clubs current and future development needs. The costs of running a club are continuously increasing and we would like to maintain fees/subscriptions at the current level so these events help ‘balance the books’. The committee would like to ask that as members of the club you attend, and where necessary, help with the promotion and running of these events. Any parents aware of any business that would like to donate funds to the club by way of sponsorship then please contact a club official, preferably the Treasurer, for further discussion Presentation Evening This is held at the end of each season and the clubs wish is to always make it a celebration event to mark the achievements of all players who have competed during the season, or who have actively been involved in one of the many teams. Previous years have been a huge success and we strive to find the best location each year to fulfil an enjoyable occasion for all players, parents and volunteers. Attendance by all players is expected so please keep an eye on the website for further details. Club Welfare Any welfare issues concerning a player are of paramount importance and must be immediately notified to a Club Welfare Officer. This includes inappropriate behaviour of any nature that you deem to be unacceptable. A copy of our child welfare policy can be found on our club website at http://www.clubwebsite.co.uk/wyreforestphoenixfc/Documents, (Hard Copy available on request). Complaints Procedure The club endeavours to take into account the best interest of all our players, parents, spectators, coaches, managers and other club officials. It is our hope that in doing so incidents of grievance will be few and far between. However, we would be negligent in our duty if we did not acknowledge that conflicts can arise and that we must deal with these fairly and quickly. The full procedure can be found on our website at http://www.clubwebsite.co.uk/wyreforestphoenixfc/Documents, (Hard Copy available on request) CLUB DISCIPLINARY PROCEDURE This is designed to help and encourage all members of Wyre Forest Phoenix Football Club to achieve and maintain standards of behaviour as detailed within the club’s Code of Conduct. The emphasis of a Disciplinary Procedure is, in the first instance, on the improvement of the member’s/associate member’s behaviour by working in partnership with them and their parent/guardian rather than just on imposing sanctions. The Club will impose sanctions in the most serious cases e.g. Gross Misconduct or where improvement in the member’s behaviour has not been forthcoming. Once a sanction has been imposed there will be a right to appeal in accordance with our policy. Our aim is to ensure consistent and fair treatment for all members. For full details of the procedure please visit our club website at http://www.clubwebsite.co.uk/wyreforestphoenixfc/Documents, (Hard Copy available on request) Codes of Conduct Wyre Forest Phoenix Football Club supports and abides by the codes of conduct of the FA Respect campaign. The following documents define the responsibilities of players, managers, coaches and spectators/parents. Breaches of the codes may result in disciplinary action by the club, County FA, or The FA. Respect is the duty of everybody and in line with the FA we operate the "Respect Bib", where a volunteer monitors sideline behaviour. Any inappropriate sideline behaviour is reported back to the manager, by the Marshall. All concerns should be relayed to the Marshall and your help in both aspects is vital. Respect Code of Conduct Young Players We all have a responsibility to promote high standards of behaviour in the game. As a player, you have a big part to play. That’s why The FA is asking every player to follow a Respect Code of Conduct. When playing football, I will: • Always play to the best of my ability • Play fairly – I won’t cheat, complain or waste time • Respect my team-mates, the other team, the referee or my coach/manager • Play by the rules, as directed by the referee • Shake hands with the other team and referee at the end of the game • Listen and respond to what my coach/team manager tells me • Talk to someone I trust or the club welfare officer if I’m unhappy about anything at my club. I understand that if I do not follow the Code, any/all of the following actions may be taken by my club, County FA or The FA: I may: • Be required to apologise to my team-mates, the other team, referee or team manager • Receive a formal warning from the coach or the club committee • Be dropped or substituted • Be suspended from training • Be required to leave the club. In addition: • My club, County FA or The FA may make my parent or carer aware of any the Code of Conduct • The FA/County FA could impose a fine and suspension against my club. infringements of Respect Code of Conduct Adult Players We all have a responsibility to promote high standards of behaviour in the game. Players tell us they want a referee for every match, yet thousands of match officials drop out because of the abuse and intimidation they receive on and off the pitch. Respect your referee today and you may just get one for every match this season. Play your part and observe The FA’s Respect Code of Conduct for players at all times. On and off the field, I will: • Adhere to the Laws of The Game • Display and promote high standards of behaviour • Promote Fair Play • Always respect the match officials’ decisions • Never engage in public criticism of the match officials • Never engage in offensive, insulting or abusive language or behaviour • Never engage in bullying, intimidation or harassment • Speak to my team-mates, the opposition and my coach/manager with respect • Remember we all make mistakes. • Win or lose with dignity. Shake hands with the opposing team and the referee at the end of every game. I understand that if I do not follow the Code, any/all of the following actions may be taken by my club, County FA or The FA: • Be required to apologise to team-mates, the other team, referee or team manager • Receive a warning from the coach • Receive a written warning from the club committee • Be required to attend an FA education course • Be dropped or substituted • Be suspended from training • Not be selected for the team • Be required to serve a suspension • Be fined • Be required to leave the club. In addition: • The FA/County FA could impose a fine and/or suspension on the club. Respect Code of Conduct Spectators and Parents/Carers We all have a responsibility to promote high standards of behaviour in the game. This club is supporting The FA’s Respect programme to ensure football can be enjoyed in a safe, positive environment. Remember children’s football is a time for them to develop their technical, physical, tactical and social skills. Winning isn’t everything. Play your part and observe The FA’s Respect Code of Conduct for spectators and parents/carers at all times. I will: • Remember that children play for FUN • Applaud effort and good play as well as success • Always respect the match officials’ decisions • Remain outside the field of play and within the Designated Spectators’ Area (where provided) • Let the coach do their job and not confuse the players by telling them what to do • Encourage the players to respect the opposition, referee and match officials • Avoid criticising a player for making a mistake – mistakes are part of learning • Never engage in, or tolerate, offensive, insulting, or abusive language or behaviour. I understand that if I do not follow the Code, any/all of the following actions may be taken by my club, County FA, league or The FA: I may be: • Issued with a verbal warning from a club or league official • Required to meet with the club, league or County FA Welfare Officer • Required to meet with the club committee • Obliged to undertake an FA education course • Obliged to leave the match venue by the club • Requested by the club not to attend future games • Suspended or have my club membership removed • Required to leave the club along with any dependents. In addition: • The FA/County FA could impose a fine and/ or suspension on the club. Respect Code of Conduct Coaches, Team Managers and Club Officials We all have a responsibility to promote high standards of behaviour in the game. In The FA’s survey of 37,000 grassroots participants, behaviour was the biggest concern in the game. This included the abuse of match officials and the unacceptable behaviour of over competitive parents, spectators and coaches on the sideline. Play your part and observe The Football Association’s Respect Code of Conduct in everything you do. On and off the field, I will: • Show respect to others involved in the game including match officials, opposition players, coaches, managers, officials and spectators • Adhere to the laws and spirit of the game • Promote Fair Play and high standards of behaviour • Always respect the match official’s decision • Never enter the field of play without the referee’s permission • Never engage in public criticism of the match officials • Never engage in, or tolerate, offensive, insulting or abusive language or behaviour. When working with players, I will: • Place the well-being, safety and enjoyment of each player above everything, including winning • Explain exactly what I expect of players and what they can expect from me • Ensure all parents/carers of all players under the age of 18 understand these expectations • Never engage in or tolerate any form of bullying • Develop mutual trust and respect with every player to build their self-esteem • Encourage each player to accept responsibility for their own behaviour and performance • Ensure all activities I organise are appropriate for the players’ ability level, age and maturity • Co-operate fully with others in football (e.g. officials, doctors, physiotherapists, welfare officers) for each player’s best interests. I understand that if I do not follow the Code, any/all of the following actions may be taken by my club, County FA, league or The FA: • Required to meet with the club, league or County Welfare Officer • Required to meet with the club committee • Monitored by another club coach • Required to attend an FA education course • Suspended by the club from attending matches • Suspended or fined by the County FA • Required to leave or be sacked by the club. In addition: • My FACA (FA Coaches Association) membership may be withdrawn.
