CODE OF CONDUCT FOR PARENTS
1. Remember that children play sports for their own fun.
They are not there to entertain you, and they are not
miniature pro athletes.
2. Be on your best behavior. Don’t use profane language,
or harass players, coaches, or officials
3. Applaud good plays by your own team and the visiting
team.
4. Show respect for your team’s opponents. Without them,
there would be no games.
5. Never ridicule or scold a player for making a mistake
during a competition.
6. Condemn the use of violence in all forms.
7. Respect the officials’ decisions.
8. Encourage players always to play according to the
rules.

PLAYER POSITIONS
All players will be taught every position because most skills are required for playing any
position. As coaches we may ask players to play certain positions to create a
flow to the game. In U10 players will have equal opportunities to play defence, forward
and goalkeeping until later in the year when players show their individual strengths, and
figure out where they enjoy to play most.
CENTER




Responsible for covering entire ice, but mainly controls the middle of the ice. As a
pivot player, he/she sets up plays and is one of the players to receive free passes.
Centers should be strong skaters, and have good game sense.
This position often dictates how well the team flows down the ice.
It is a defensive position and when play is in neutral or the defensive zone, the
center must be quick to transition to our end of the ice and help the defense.
DEFENCE



Responsible for protecting the net, checking offensive players, receiving the pass from
the goalie and passing to forwards/ center, taking the center zone free pass.
At all times, defence should remain between the other team and their own goalie.
The defensive triangle is the most common defensive strategy in Ringette.
FORWARDS




Responsible for taking the play from their own zone to the other team’s zone.
Lots of checking & passing! When the play is in the neutral zone, and the other team’s
possession, it is the forwards’ job to check the ring carrier all the way to their own
free play line.
Once the play is moving forward and in our possession, the forwards must cross
the blue line to make themselves available for the ring carrier to pass to them.
The forwards & center work together to score, through strategy & passing.
GOALIE



Responsible for protecting the net and keeping the ring OUT!
Toss the ring out to the defence
The goalie is in the best position to talk to teammates about where the ring is (i.e.,
behind the net, out front, break out, etc.)

EQUIPMENT



Our primary goal is to keep our kids safe while learning these new skills.
It is vital that all the equipment fits properly and helmets must be current CSA certified.
Please ask your coach if you are unsure of anything.


You will be given a game jersey, please look after it. It can not be worn during practices.
Ringette pants or Hockey pants may be worn.
CODE OF CONDUCT FOR PLAYERS
Vancouver Ringette Association
The overall experience for athletes participating in sports should promote the
development of healthy & positive attitudes toward themselves, fellow athletes, officials
and coaches. The following Code of Conduct, for U12 players & below, has been developed
to aid athletes in achieving a level of behavior, which assists them in becoming well‐
rounded, self confident and productive human beings.
1. I will play Ringette because I want to, not because
others or coaches want me to.
2. I will play by the rules of Ringette, and in the spirit
of the game.
3. I will control my temper – throwing equipment, and
“mouthing off” can spoil the activity for everyone.
4. I will respect my teammates, and the
members of the other teams.
5. I will do my best to be a true team player.
6. I will remember that winning isn’t everything – that having fun,
improving skills, making friends, and doing my best are most
important.
7. I will acknowledge all good plays/ performances – those of my
team and my opponents.
8. I will remember that coaches and officials are there to help
me. I will accept their decisions and show them respect.
9. I will remember at all times, on & off the ice, to proudly represent
my Team, Association, and the Ringette Community.
I agree to this code of conduct, and will follow it.
