From beginner to winner

From Beginner To Winner
Beginner To Winner: Racing enjoys immense popularity for many reasons. Racing fans
nationwide, and in many parts of the world, love viewing the spectacle of one of nature's most
efficient and graceful animals speeding around the track. These fans also enjoy the challenge of
matching wits with each other in a contest every race to try and select the winners. This direct
participation in the action on the track adds an element of drama and anticipation to the first-run
performances starring the magnificent greyhounds. The key to winning at any game involving
skill is to know the right way to play. We hope that this information will help you go quickly
from a beginner to a winner.
Win: The first dog to cross the finish line. You collect if the dog you chose to WIN comes in
first. Minimum wager is $2.00.
Places: The second dog to cross the finish line PLACES. You collect if the dog you chose to
PLACE comes in second or first. Minimum wager is $2.00.
Show: The third dog to cross the finish line SHOWS. You collect if the dog you chose to
SHOW comes in third, second, or first. Minimum wager is $2.00.
Across The Board: Here, you make three individual bets on one dog to WIN, PLACE, and
SHOW. If your selection wins, you collect on all three bets. If your selection runs second, you
collect on PLACE and SHOW bets. If your selection runs third, you collect the SHOW bet. The
minimum wager is $2.00 but remember that your total cost will be three times your minimum
amount. For example, a $2.00 'Across the Board' bet would cost $6.00.
QUINIELA
When you bet a Quiniela, you are wagering the two dogs you select will cross the finish line in
either order.
Example: If you think #5 and #8 are going to run first and second, then you purchase a 5-8
Quiniela ticket. If #5 wins, and #8 runs second, or if #8 wins and #5 runs second, you win the
Quiniela. Minimum wager is $2.00.
Quiniela Box: You can also combine more than two dogs and 'box them in' so that all
combinations of those numbers are covered.

win, #4 to run second, and #8 to run third. Minimum wager is $2.00.

order. For example, If you ask for a .10¢ straight superfecta 1-3-4-8, you would collect if the
race finished exactly 1-3-4-8 with the #1 to win, #3 to run second, #4 to finish third, and #8 to
finish fourth. Minimum wager is .10¢
Boxing The Superfecta: You can also box four numbers in the superfecta for only $2.40. For
example, if you box the 5,6,7 and 8 dogs, you will win if any combination of those four dogs
finishes in the top four positions.

Wheeling The Superfecta: You can also play the superfecta with .10¢ key wheels. You may
choose a key dog to finish first, and then play that key dog/horse with three others to come in
second, third, and fourth. For example, if you bet a .10¢ superfecta wheel with the 1 keyed over
the 3,4,8, you would collect if the #l came in first, and the 3,4, and 8 dogs/horses came in second,
third and fourth, in any order. Although the key dog is usually played in the first or win position,

DAILY DOUBLE
This is a bet involving two consecutive races. You win by picking the winner of the first race and
the winner of the second race.
TWIN TRIFECTA
The twin-tri can be played for as little as $2.00 and all you have to do is select, in order, the first
three dogs to cross the finish line in the first half. If your selections are correct in the first half,
you collect your payoff and exchange your ticket for a FREE second half selection. Then sit back
and wait for your second half trifecta to cross the line in the order you've selected. If no one wins
both halves of the twin-tri, a carryover jackpot is started and continues to grow until someone
wins!
TRI-SUPER
The Tri-Super is conducted on two designated races. To play, simply follow these easy steps:
1. Select the first, second and third place finishers in exact order in the first half of the TriSuper.
2. If your selection is correct, cash your first-half winning ticket and then select the
first, second, third and fourth place finishers in the second half of the Tri-Super. this selection is
placed at no extra charge.
3. If you correctly select the first three finishers (TRIfecta) in the first half of the Tri-Super and
then exchange your winning ticket for a correct selection of the first four finishers in the second
half of the Tri-Super, you will be the winner of the Tri-Super carryover jackpot.
Check Your Ticket Before Leaving The Window
Always check your ticket(s) before leaving the teller window to make sure the bet, track, race
number and date are correct.
Never throw your ticket away, unless you are positive it is not a winner. If there is any doubt,
have a mutuel teller run the ticket through the wagering terminal (or run the ticket through a self
service wagering terminal) to find out if you have any money due you!
How to Cash A Winning Ticket
As soon as the race is declared official, take your winning ticket to any window and give it to the
mutuel clerk. The display screen on the machine will show the amount of your winnings. To save
time, make your next wager at the same time you cash your winning ticket.
Winning tickets must be redeemed within 360 days following the last race of each meet.
We're Here To Help
When you're at the track remember, we want you to have fun and be successful. If you have any
questions be sure to ask any member of our staff and they will be delighted to help.
The Pari-Mutuel Concept
The great thing about pari-mutuel wagering is that the majority of the money wagered goes right
back into the hands of the bettors. The track, the state and the greyhound owners simply receive
a straight percentage of each wager. The rest of the money is placed in a pool, and paid out
proportionally to each winner. The number of people who bet on the same dogs determines the
odds and therefore, the payoff.
GREYHOUND GRADING SYSTEM
1. The Racing Secretary shall be responsible for the proper grading of greyhounds under
provisions of this section. The Racing Secretary after sufficiently schooling all greyhounds, and
considering their past performances, shall classify and assign them to their proper grades.
2. There will be six grades of grades indicated by A, B, C, D, E, and M (Maiden).
3. Any greyhound racing in Grade E for four (5) consecutive starts that fails to finish 1st, 2nd,
3rd, or 4th in those 5 starts, may be dropped from further racing, at the discretion of the Racing
Secretary.
4. The winner of a maiden race shall be advanced no higher than Grade D.
5. The Racing Secretary may re-classify a greyhound at any time within its first three starts, but
no more than one grade higher or lower.
6. Greyhounds falling in a race shall be considered a starter in that race.
7. Greyhounds not racing on account of illness or injury for thirty (30) or more days may be reclassified.
8. Greyhounds transferring from one track to another during the racing season may be regarded
by the Racing Secretary in accordance with the provisions of this section.
9. The winner of any race is advanced one grade until reaching Grade A.
10. If a greyhound fails to finish 1st, 2nd, 3rd, in three consecutive starts (except in Grade D) or
fails to earn more than one 3rd in four consecutive starts in the same grade; that greyhound shall
be lowered one grade. In Grade D, a greyhound may fail to finish 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th in four
consecutive starts before being lowered.
11. The Racing Secretary shall determine the proper grading for the various races.
12. Greyhounds of different grades or of the same grade may be used in races of 3/8 mile or
longer. These races may be made up by the Racing Secretary and shall be designated by the letter
"T", or the respective grade. A start in a "T" race will not necessarily count in the usual manner
in lowering or advancing a grade. The decision shall be at the discretion of the Racing Secretary,
however, the established policy shall be maintained throughout the meeting.
13. The program shall indicate the "grade" of each race on the page listing the entries for that
race. The grades of the races in which each entry participated shall be indicated in front of the
names of the winners of those races in the past performance lines. Where "T" race are indicated,
the regular grade of the greyhound shall be in parentheses.
14. All stake and sweepstakes races shall be indicated by the letter "S".
15. A greyhound finishing 2nd, 3rd, or 4th in Maiden events may at the request of the owner or
trainer to the Racing Secretary be moved into grade "D" races and then must abide by all
provisions of the grading system. Maidens shall be designed by the letter "M" on the program
after the name of the greyhound.
Odds Board
o
Each runner is listed by number on the Odds Board (or tote Board). Odds are posted next to
the number. These odds are for the WIN pool only. They have no relation to the PLACE,
SHOW, QUINIELA, or any other pool.
o
On the left of the Odds Board, each QUINIELA combination is listed with odds posted next
to the combinations.
o
The odds change often before the race, based upon the amount of money being bet on
each runner in each pool and are based on the number of wagers placed on a particular
runner. As more wagers are placed on a runner for a WIN or QUINIELA combination, the
odds go down. If fewer wagers are placed on a runner, the odds go up.
o
Odds listed on the Board are all $1.00 odds. If a runner or QUINIELA combination wins at 51 odds, the payoff on a $2.00 wager is approximately $12.00 (your $2.00 wager plus five
times that amount for a winning selection).
o
Regardless of how much money is bet on a favorite, the track must pay $2.10 for each
$2.00 winning bet.
o
There's no limit on how much can be won on any single bet. Only the odds determine the
amounts.
o
After each race, the Odds Board will show which runners came in first, second, third, and
fourth.
o The Odds Board show payoffs on all wagers for that race and remember, the Odds Board is
only an aid to the bettor. Errors on the Board will be corrected, however, DBKC will pay
only the correct winning price.
