Playbook Head Coach: Michael Takamoto [email protected] 650-279-1147 Assistant Coach: Adam Beguelin [email protected] 650-863-6208 The ChillaRillas will be running a variation of the Single Wing Offense. The single wing offense was designed by Pop Warner, who used it with great success with Jim Thorpe and the Carlisle Indian Industrial School against West Point and the the Ivy league. Though the Carlisle team was smaller than their opponents, with a dazzling array of ball handling and sometimes outright trickery, they dominated their opponents. The unique features of this offense are: Ball usually goes to tailback, but can be snapped to 3-4 different players Allows maximum blockers at the point of attack Unmatched deception possibilities Formations We will have 4 basic formations, all Single Wing: Single Wing Right Single Wing Left Single Wing Right Spread Single Wing Left Spread Single Wing Right Positions, left to right: TE, Tight End, LT Left Tackle, C, Center, RT, Right Tackle, TE From time to time the purple players will also be Wide Receivers. Second Row, right to left: WB Wing Back, QB Quarterback or Blocking Back, FB Full Back, Tail Back All colors are eligible to catch a pass except yellow. Single Wing Left This is a mirror image of the Single Wing Left. It’s designed to take advantage of defenses that might adjust to the Single Wing Right. Single Wing Right Spread This is just a variation of the basic formation with the ends now positioned as wide receivers. This is to spread the defense out more. Single Wing Left Spread This is just a mirror of the left. Plays Off Tackle Right This is our bread and butter play. Should be good for about 7 yards per carry. On set, WB goes in motion. Snap goes to the tail back who fakes hand-off to wingback then follows full back though the hole. After the fake handoff the TB should bootleg the ball, and WB should crouch like he has the ball. The left tackle pulls in front The key block is by the QB/BB who will eliminate the Defensive corner back. The option is to simply give the ball to the WB and the rest of the team pretends that the TB does have the ball. Off Tackle Left is the same play to the left side. Off Tackle Left Sweep Right This is really a simple power play. Tailback takes the snap and runs to the far end. Blocking is straight-forward to the left. The key block is by the WB who will block the Defensive corner back and the QB to help contain pursuit. The option on this play is that the TB can throw the ball to possibly the Right tight end or the FB. Sweep Left is the mirror image of this play. Sweep Left RW Sweep Slant Pass Play starts out looking like a sweep. FB takes snap, fakes to TB. QB is the primary target. This is a timing play designed for a short yardage pass when defense expects a run. We have the mirror image of this play from the Left Single Wing formation. LW Slant Pass Double Pass Right This features the tight end throwing the ball or running with it. Use this in the event we have a mismatch in coverage we can take advantage of. WR steps backward. Snap to tailback or QB who immediately throws to right side wide out. WR waits till defenders converge on him and throws to either QB or WB. If no ones around, takes off. FB runs like it’s a sweep left. Same play from the left side. Double Pass Left Wingback Reverse This is play starts out looking like sweep to right. TB takes the snap. Follows the FB. Right Guard pulls to left. QB pulls to the left. Inside handoff too WB The key block is by the QB who will block the Defensive contain main. The option on this play is that the WB can throw the ball to possibly the Left TE or the FB. Another option would be to fake the reverse and have the TB keep the ball. Flea Flicker Snap to QB who runs quickly to the line, then laterals to the TB to can run, or look for the FB, WB or TE to throw to. Who’s Got the Ball? Pre call Red, Blue, Purple, Green to get the ball in the huddle On Set, the left TE goes to the backfield and lines up next to the TB. Line executes a wedge block On Hike, the ball is hiked to QB who runs between TB and FB facing backwards. Ball is handed to Red, Green Blue or Purple who execute spin maneuvers. All inside spin to the outside and run. Object is to confuse the defense as to who has the ball. Fake Snap Misfire This trick play relies on the acting ability of the TB and FB to fake a misfire and look for the ball. TB calls the signals, down, set, on set the ball is snapped to the QB who runs with it. On hike, the follow the imaginary ball over their heads and scramble looking for it.
