SHIPPING WORKSHOP: Reducing the Cost and Carbon Emissions of Maritime Transport Port of Rotterdam, September 18-19, 2014 “Creating sustainable and profitable supply chains in the shipping industry requires coordination amongst cargo-owners—even potentially amongst competitors. This coordination is essential for building a more efficient, profitable industry.” José María Figueres, President of the Carbon War Room. Join the Carbon War Room, Pure Birds, cargo-owners, and the Port of Rotterdam for an invitation-only workshop event to explore how cargo-owners can drive costs down and reduce emissions. The workshop will convene 30 leading cargo-owners from shippers and charterers to work together to create systemic cost-savings and change. The event will explore future opportunities to embed efficiency into commercial operations, building on individual cargo-owner ambitions and strategies, and the great work done by a variety of initiatives to collect information about fleet efficiency. WHAT YOU WILL GAIN: Energy-Saving Solutions & Best Practices • Hear industry leaders from Cargill, Shell, Nike, Friesland Campina, and AB-Inbev share their insights on best practices for vessel procurement that incorporate efficiency data to optimize operations and potentially reduce costs • Gain an understanding of current practices around sea freight and vessel procurement, and ways to stimulate and incentivize the adoption of energy-saving solutions in ships • Participate in small groups to discuss the benefits and challenges of adopting energy-saving solutions, brainstorming actions to harness those benefits and limit any challenges ABOUT THE A – G GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS RATING Launched by RightShip and the Carbon War Room, the A to G Greenhouse Gas Emissions Rating enables charterers, owners and ports to instantly see a ship’s theoretical greenhouse gas emissions and relative energy efficiency compared to ships of similar size and type. Vessels are rated from A (most efficient) to G (least efficient). Some of the data, including a vessel’s rating, is available free-of-charge through www.shippingefficiency.org, a joint initiative between RightShip and the Carbon War Room.
