Imagine Clay Avenue Community School Title I Newsletter January 2017 Technology Skills for Ohio’s State Tests State testing for students in grades 3-8 is just around the corner! English Language Arts: March 27-April 13 Math/Science/Social Studies: April 24 - May 12 Activities on the Go! Math: Practice rounding with prices. Look for signs at stores or gas stations and round the prices to the nearest 10 cents, dollar or 10 dollars, etc. (ex: $3.79 $3.80 or $4.00). Talk about how rounding is helpful when using money. Reading/Language Arts: Play an alphabet game. For younger children, start with the letter ‘a’ and have them look for the letters on signs. For older students, have them find objects that begin with the sounds of the letters. This is a great way to practice letter recognition, phonemic awareness and alphabetical order skills! January Important Dates 3 – School resumes 16-30 – STAR Assessments 13 – Staff PD – NO SCHOOL 16 – Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day – NO SCHOOL Students will take the assessments online, and there are many skills they need to master in order to successfully navigate their way through the tests and show what they know.
