Alps and Dolomites motorcycle tour program details

Motorbike Tour Alps and Dolomites
from Milan, 12 days
Tour dates:
1) from July 18th till 29th, 2016
2) from August 31st till September 11th, 2016
Alps and Dolomites: A tour to reveal nature at its full expression, traversing roads and passes of
the greatest renown, from the majesty of the western Alps highest peaks to the most
spectacular lakes and crags landscapes for which the Dolomites have earned the prestigious title
of UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Alps and Dolomites Tour is the trip par excellence for skilled riders who are more interested in
feeling the tarmac beneath their wheels than visiting, with fewer tourist visits but the bonus of a
magnificent Alpine backdrop.
Entirely set on mountain roads, this is a tour in the majestic Italian Alps stretching over 10 full
days in the saddle on a west-east route from Lombardy across to Trentino. It’s a ride through
breathtaking high-mountain landscapes and enthralling passes, with the odd raid back into
civilization.
The tour is entirely on tarmacked – but often highly challenging – mountain roads that will reach
the altitude of 3,000 meters (9,800 feet) above sea level. There will be many tight bends and
hairpins with very narrow and difficult sections of road.
If you want to put your riding skills to the test in the mountains, amid sharp bends and major
climbs and descents, then this is the tour for you.

This holiday on motorbike tailored for quite expert riders entirely runs throughout mountains.
Starting in the Stelvio pass area it will bring us into the unique sight of the Dolomites and will
finally touch on the Lake Garda before we ride back to our start point Milan.
Day 1: Meeting in Milan (Milano)
We meet up in the afternoon at our hotel in Milan and pick up the rental bikes. We all meet up
before dinner and get to know each other through a welcome aperitif and a short but important
briefing, the time to explain a few simple rules for organizing and synchronizing things, thus
ensuring that everyone has a safe holiday that is unforgettable for all the right reasons.
Overnight in 4-star hotel in Milan; included meals: D.
Day 2: 250 km
The tour proper begins and, with it, our ramble through the mountains of northern Lombardy. We
head for Bormio in the Valtellina, at the foot of the world-renowned Stelvio Pass, and rumble on

north, through Saint Moritz in Switzerland!

Our tour takes us to the picturesque duty-free town of Livigno and on to Switzerland. We loop
back into Italy and see the famous submerged bell tower of Marienberg Abbey and climb up
Stelvio Pass – Italy’s highest at 2,757 m (9,045 ft) above sea level. Lunch in a typical restaurant on
the heights.
Overnight in 4-star hotel in Bormio; included meals: B, L. For dinner choose your own eatery in
Bormio.

A challenging but rewarding day. Climbing and descending among the Lombardy Alps, we make a
foray into Switzerland to visit the town of St Moritz and to explore a few other Alpine passes in
Park Ela before returning to Italy and our hotel.
Overnight in 4-star hotel in Bormio; included meals: B, D.
Day 5: 0–... km
After yesterday’s exploits in a trip of 2400 km in 10 days, we need a relaxing day off. You may
choose to simply loaf around and enjoy our hotel's amenities or we can propose you a choice of
various guided activities:
 go for an excursion and lunch on Lake Cancano
 a day at the old baths in Bormio (fascinating Roman thermal baths hewn from the rock
looking down on the town and its valley)
 a visit to wine cellars and cheese makers
 renting a bicycle and exploring under your own steam (unguided)
Our staff are at your disposal to organize and lead small group outings. No meal is included to
leave you completely bound-free on this rest day.
Overnight in 4-star hotel in Bormio; included meals: B.

More about the touring area
The Alps with their exceptional beauty and majesty are the ideal scenery for a pleasure tour. The
variety of landscapes offers new perspectives every few kilometers, passing from beautiful forests
to flowered meadows, from green lakes to rocky peaks nearly touching the sky, alternating colors
and materials, thus granting us endless emotions. A ride through the unspoilt nature, where the
heartwarming background of the unchanged snow-capped peaks captures you. A pleasure for
eyes, mind and soul that everyone should reward oneself with to recover from daily stress.
Today high mountain resorts offer to the lovers of nature, healthy lifestyle and fresh air, a holiday
the which quality is as high as the peaks which surround you. This is because the mountain people
know what the real quality of life is and love offering it to their guests. Villages are often
enchanting with their charmingly blossomed chalets and the most famous resorts offer one of the
best level services, facilities and shopping in the country. The hotels are very well specialized in
pampering you: in the widespread spas, at the table where the food is always plentiful and
delicious, in the comfortable, cozy and relaxing rooms, even in winter for skiers with their bulky
clothes…
Bormio in the Valtellina area, our base for the first part of the tour, is known not only for its ski
slopes and its beautiful mountains but also for its thermal baths (of sulphate bicarbonate alkaline
earthy water) since the times of the ancient Romans. What a priceless feeling, after a great ride,
treating oneself to a dive of over two thousand years in the history, passing from the Roman Baths
to the caves hosting the ancient springs up to the panoramic outdoor swimming pool overlooking
the valley of Bormio, immersed in the water with infinite healing properties that flows out from
the mountain at a temperature between 37 °C and 40 °C.
A unique experience out of time for the well-being of body and soul. Just think how few in the
world have the opportunities of a treat in a spa built more than 2000 years ago and still working!
Our journey continues heading to the magnificent, world famous Dolomites. Only mountain chain
in the world classified as Unesco world heritage, the Dolomites are simply breathtaking! Majestic
peaks, magnificent sceneries, top quality facilities and utmost care are only some of the words
that best describe this enchanted world that attracts millions of visitors every year, as well in the
winter thanks to its unique skiing area, the largest in Europe, and in the summer...
Stated that in August they are literally taken over by hordes of cyclists and motorcyclists, July is
the ideal month to enjoy all the pleasures of senses the Dolomites can offer to a biker.
The last part of the tour touches on gentler heights but not less beloved Italian area: region
Trentino and Lake Garda district. Enchanting places, great roads, excellent hospitality... the
appropriate end of a great journey worth experiencing!
